Have both of these possible deaths been ruled out?

Dec 1921
Bridgewater
Ref 5c 393
Kate Bown
age 60

Dec 1938
Essex SW
Ref 4a 184
Catherine E Bown
age 78

I haven't ruled them out but I'm not sure there would be any way to say that they are or are not with death certs alone... would there?  I need some sort of linking information.

I've found her parents' grave -- she's not with them, neither is her brother John William - I can't see a grave for John or for Kate.

I'm so sorry... I forgot I'd posted this thread!  Eeek!

A Catherine BOWN, given address "13 Percy St/City Mental Hospital" is buried a feew plots along in Z696, but this Catherine was buried 17 Jan 1925 with a stated age of 61 -- so 3 years too young -- but may none the less be worth looking into, as if Kate's family was all dead and she had lost her faculties, her age may have been a "best guess".

--- edited to add -- unfortunately the censuses show a different Catherine Bown in Leic b 1865 so probably more likely to be her.

This other Catherine BOWN... I believe I've followed her before...  But it would fit with family stories... How coincidental would it be that the other Catherine BOWN from Leicester also ended up in a mental hospital when family stories are that our Kate ended up in a mental hospital?

I think this is probably the path to follow... is there any way of getting admissions records? Would there even be any?  How do 19th/early 20th century mental hospitals work?

Leicestershire / Kate BOWN - Leicester

Hello!
This could end up a long one so please bare with me.  I'm basically looking to try and find her after 1894.

Kate has been discussed briefly in the past (in reference to her husband James DAVIDSON http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=106944.0) but this is about her...

Kate's birth was registered in Qtr1 1862 in Leicester as Catherine Eliza Pagett BOWN.  She was the daughter of Henry Pagett BOWN and Ann BLAKESLEY.

In 1861, she was with her parents & siblings at 57 Granby Street, Leicester.
In 1871, she was living on Chatham Street, St Margaret, Leicester.
In 1881, she is still on Chatham Street (number 27).

On 25th October 1885, she married James DAVIDSON at St Matthews, Leicester.  (I have the certificate somewhere for this marriage.)

Four children followed - Wallace Henry, Stuart James, Maggie and Dorothy.

In 1894, the family received more than their 15 minutes of fame.  There are numerous newspaper reports surrounding James' trial where he was charged with bigamy.  (I have the first wife and the majority of information there!)

Kate gave evidence in March 1894 on the period following their marriage.

They started a business in Bond Street, but then left town and went to Staffordshire thanks to James' large debts.

James and Kate separated by mutual consent in July 1893.

The children stayed with their father and Kate did not know of their whereabouts before the trial (I suspect they were with James' 3rd wife!)

Kate's brother, John William BOWN, was a witness at the trial also.

After the trial, I can't seem to find a trace of her.  During the trial she was referred to as Miss BOWN...

Family stories are that she was committed to an asylum... I'm not so sure.

So, where can I go from here?  If I can go anywhere of course.  Do I just need to say that Kate is missing?

In the past 4 years, I've been back and fore her... determined to find something but I just can't.

TIA

Once I get used to it, I'm sure I'll be fine...

The indexes are fan-blinking-tastic in Scotland... Love the amount of detail held...

I had to keep reminding myself that civil registration didn't start until 1855...

Oh Lord!  Seems James committed bigamy again .....  :o  ..... unless of course Charlotte divorced him .....   ???

Wouldn't there then be a divorce case?  Hmmmm.....

If there isn't, then why the heck did James and Elizabeth wait so long?

Hmmm... didn't I read somewhere that marriages could be dissolved after 7 years of no contact?

Why are you getting so many results? A search on SP for the death of Charlotte Davidson, other surname Joss, produced just one result, and a bit of narrowing down finds that she died aged 97 in 1947.

Oh... I didn't extend past 1934..... and I'm still getting to grips with the search on SP....

I could spend a fortune...

It's the whole 1 credit to view the search results... then 5 credits to view an image that gets my goat... (Would be much better to have a subscription service..

Is there any indication on SP of the date of death for Charlotte senr?

Nope... There's too many to pick from with limited funds... (SP is extortionate!!!!)

However, I did find her on the 1911 census - at #3 Mackie Place, Peterhead.

Charlotte DAVIDSON, head, 61, married 33 years, 4 children 3 living, Boarding House Keeper, own account, Aberdeen Peterhead.

Too much matching info to be coincidence.  :)
