Hi, Further to my earlier post, This entry refers to my wife Sandra's ancestors. This is an entry in the Monmouth Catholic Register of St. Pauls, Perthir.
"1804 Aug. 6 born and 12 bap. John son of William Gayly and Elizabeth (Vaughan.) vSpons : William Price, Elizabeth Thomas. By G. Gildart. "
May I suggest that William Price and Elizabeth Thomas were cousins.

Hi, My wife Sandra Gailey is the descendant of an Elizabeth Vaughan of Rockfield who married William Gailey of Monmouth in Rockfield on 13.10.1788. Elizabeth signed the Register with a "X". I am exploring as to whether this Elizabeth if the granddaughter of Joseph Vaughan and Ann Price.

My children descend from Anne Hackett who was born in Leicester in 1828. She married Thomas Haford  Calvert of Loughborough. Her mother was born in Ashby de la Zouche in about 1801-07, maiden surname unknown but maybe Atkinson. Anne Hacketts strongly claimed that Earl Ferrers of Staunton Harold (hanged for murder in 1740s) was her ancestor. A Hackett family lived next door. No link found either. Does that mean anything to fellow family ancestry researchers.

This is exciting news. I have been researching this family for 30 years now and been stuck. I am cited on the Internet as an Author, "James Hugh Donohoe", if that helps you to identify me. The "Paracensus of Australia 1788-1828" is one of my works. My wife;s maiden name is Gailey and Anne Hackett Calvert was her great grandmother's maiden name. James.

Hi,
I descend from James Squire, first feet arrival in Aust. 1788, his daughter Sarah (Lucas), then Martha Lucas (Goodin), John Andrew Goodin, Mary Emily Goodin (Egan), Kathleen Clare Egan (Donohoe) then me (two more generations after me).
The family myths claim James Squire as a Gypsy as you have discussed.
I have just published "Captain Bligh's Petticoat Mutiny" (on Kindle DP) about the overthrow of William Bligh ("Bounty" Bligh) by the NSW Corps on 26.01.1808. It was James Squire who started the ball rolling against Bligh and he is the focus of my book together with the identity and backgound on hundreds of other people subjected to Bligh's extensive abuses here. James Squire was among the first to challenge Bligh! I am also writing the history of James Squire's families in Australia since 1788 and even earlier. This work indexes in family order his known descendants. I expect that there are 20,000 descendants but only located 4,000 so far. Keen to learn more about this fascinating character.  James Hugh Donohoe

Hi

James Osgood served with the 11th North Devonshire Regiment which was in Australia 1845-1856. His Personnel file should still exist and would be held in the National Archives in Kew near London.  The Musters and Payrolls of this unit will be found in the Australia Joint Copying Programs Microfilm Series held in most major Australia Librairies and also at Kew. The Musters will cite his location, rank and pay in Australia at particular times

I live in Australia. I married the great grand daughter of an Anne Hackett "from Leicestershire". Anne made a stitched painting now destroyed in which she said that she was Anne Hackett Leicestershire 1840 aged 11, i.e., born 1827-1828. Her daughter's Australian death certificate cites Anne Hackett as her mother and her father as Thomas Halford Calvert. The 1881 Census on the IGI cites Anne Calvert a widow (Thomas Calvert died in 1871) living in Yorkshire with the Angel family. She stated that she was born in Ashby. The IGI shows an Anne Hackett born 1827, daughter of Robert Hackett and Ann (Archer?). Family myths claim that Anne descended from the Earl of Ferrers "who murdered his butler and was hung by a silken cord". The Earl of Ferrers murdered his Steward, ie Estate Manager (a butler and a steward are similar employments in the Australian dialect!). He was actually hanged wearing a silk suit. I have located the Earl's children and grandchildren and they don't seem to match. The Earl of Ferrers lived next door to Samson Hackett. Perhaps the myths cite the wrong member of the Ferrers family. Can anyone enlighten a huge number of Hackett of Ashby descendants here in Australia?
