Thanks Hallmark . Been scrolling through records ,and can`t find a match at the moment .Now I know how to use it I can take my time and search other counties . Just can`t pinpoint an exact match when you don`t know the place where they were born . All the census certs just say `Ireland `in Scotland ,why did none of them know exactly where they were born ? Patrick b 1856 couldn`t write ,just made his mark on the children`s birth certs , only the last one ,my grandfather has his actual signature on it . I  did find one record for a marriage between a Patrick O`brien and Helen Maloney but it was a few years after Patrick b 1856 was born ,in 1865 ,Limerick . I think it was common for couples sometimes to wait a few years when they could afford it ,but have children anyway . But 9  years after ?

Will plod on . It is very good of you and Sinann to take the trouble ,I know how time consuming it can be .
Thanks

I have just found those records this minute, looking at the two possibles you mentioned right now !!. Once I got the hang of it lots of lovely records .  Trying now to see if any births  match up with a few possible Patricks ,and names from his marriage to Bridget .Luckily the Irish are the same as Scottish records ,naming children after family members . This is a great site ,thanks for that

They died before 1875,listed as deceased on their son`s (Patrick 1856)marriage cert 1875. So presume they died in Limerick .

Re civil records . I have put in every combination and coming up zero. All counties ,all spelling , getting crosseyed !

Haven`t finished yet.  Wondered if it would be worthwhile trying to put something in  a Limerick paper to see if any family are still living there .I know it is a long shot , but sometimes I have had successes . Probably need about 20 posts !

Appreciate  all trying to help .

Hallmark ,

I have searched census records. Unfortunately the ones that are relevant for Patrick Obrien born 1856, namely 1861 and 1871 are not available .I think they were destroyed in Dublin . Patrick was in Britain by 1874.

Wading through records OF BMD`s ,so far haven`t found anything yet . I still have a few counties to check

Thanks for help
