Hi MarkB

I've done quite a lot of work in reconstructing the Brinsdon families in Wiltshire and surrounding areas. Please contact me on e-mail address removed to prevent spamming.  Please use the pm facility to exchange e-mail addresses.  Thank you!!  if you would like me to send you the GEDCOM's I've got.

Hi

Many thanks for your reply. My possible ancestor's name is James Brinsdon born in 1823 in St Marys Wiltshire.  I am trying to establish whether he is the son of John Brinsdon (Born 1791 in Wiltshire) and Lucy Trotman (born 1788 in Rowde, Wiltshire).

John and Lucy married in 1812 in Rowde, Wiltshire and had the following known children (all christened in Rowde with the records showing their surname as Brinson)- George (1813), William (1815), Grace (1817), Elizabeth (1821), Jane (1825), Sarah (1828) and John (1830).

Lucy (Trotman) Brinsdon died in 1830 in Rowde and John married again, in 1831 to Susanna Hannah Rutty of Melksham, Wiltshire. They had the following children Sarah (1831), Thomas (born 1832 in Rowde), Elizabeth (1834), Mary Ann (born 1836 in Devizes, Wiltshire), Lucy (1840, Devizes), Edward Rutty Brinsdon (my 2x gt-grandfather) (Born 1843, Devizes died 1919 in Dunedin,  New Zealand), James Albert Brinsdon (1845, Devizes), and Esther (Hester) ( March 1847, Devizes).

My 3 x gt-grandfather John Brinsdon died in August 1846 in Devizes. His widow (my 3 x gt-grandmother) Susanna (Rutty) Brinsdon died in Devizes in January 1874.

If anyone could give me some guidance as to whether they think James Brinsdon (born 1823 in St Marys Wiltshire) fits into the family above, I would be most appreciative.

I'd also love to hear from anyone who has any of the above in their tree.

Regards

Wiltshire / Wiltshire St Marys - 1871 census
« on: Thursday 28 April 05 05:55 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Would anyone be able to tell me where St Marys Wiltshire is? Is it near Devizes? I haven't been able to find anything on modern maps or in Genuki.

If the rest of a family was baptised at Rowde, would it be likely that someone who said in the 1871 census that he was born at Wiltshire St Marys, would it be likely he would be part of that family?

Any help much appreciated.

Regards
