Durham Lookup Requests / Re: barcraft/beecroft/bearcroft/becroft

I'm sure no-one would think that. The thesis was very informative and detailed and I learnt far more from it than combing through records at Durham Univ. online. I live a long way from Durham now or would be happy to do my own research. Do you have access to the actual records of those people I mentioned? Especially Elizabeth. I don't know what the records say at all. Only know Chilton and Thrundell/ Thrundale.

Yes, thank you. It has answered my question about Chilton and Thrundale being the same. I shall continue to read the thesis which concerns a lot of the farms in the area which mean something to me. I would never have found this without your help.

Durham Lookup Requests / barcraft/beecroft/bearcroft/becroft

Different spellings make this difficult and some church records unavailable.
Is Elizabeth Barcroft/Barcraft born 1739 Chilton  sister to Matthew Becroft born 1741 at Thrundell and Jane Barecraft born 1738 at Thrundale and Dorothy about same age.  Father of all is Matthew Bearcroft who, I believe, was buried in  1749 at Kelloe. I have read the will of Jane Becroft  widow of Cassop,1767,  which makes me think I am on right track. Most of records seem to be Kirk Merrington.
Have not found marriage, presumably around 1735/38. Elizabeth at the top has been very hard to trace  since she is known as Beecroft and married peter bell in 1760 at Kelloe who farmed at Crow Trees. In our family tree no-one has succeeded in tracing Elizabeth, because of misleading spelling.
Is Thrundell/Thrundale Tursdale?

Thanks for telling me about John Bell but I am pretty sure that's a different one and no connection with Rothbury. Good luck with research.

Did you get my reply? I hope I have helped you to trace more. Please get in touch again.

Dear Dan
Thank you for the message. The 1881 census had Augustine Bell farming at Close House, 300 acres; may have belonged to Wynard Estate. There were quite a few offspring, so not impossible that one of the family were there. They do seem to have moved to Whitton, near Stillington for later census, but I don't know which farm. I thought I might have more replies since there were so many "Bells".
Regards
Cambria
P.S. My gf. farmed at Old Acres Hall from near the start of 20th century.

Please can you help me to trace descendants of John Bell born Kelloe c1792 and Dorothy Nicholson. Of several children, Augustine Bell , my direct ancestor, was born c 1836 at Bishopton but there are also links with Garmondsway Moor, specifically Fox and Hounds, West Cornforth (now shut up and for sale). Augustine also farmed at Elwick Hall, Close House near Wynyard in 1881 Census and later farmed at Whitton. His descendants are of interest to me and I know there were several "Bells" around Bishopton, Redmarshall and Carlton.I am descended from Caroline Emma Bell born 1870.

Forgot to say I'm pretty sure of Albert's death year but I really don't know Dorothy's so may have the wrong one.

Evie, thank you. I don't think that can be the right one because there was a child born about 1955
to them both (living, so i won't say name). They married later but I assume the child was given the Applegarth surname. ...........................
His mother was Caroline Emma and there was a big family but I haven't been able to trace them all since I'm relying on free bmd and good detective work. Can you help, please?
