Hi heywood

Thank you for the extra information - it makes the mind boggle about his parentage and all sorts of thoughts spring to mind :o

Hi Keyboard86

Only had a brief look so far on the military records, found 1 x James Slater b 1873 but not sure of a match as he lists his brother Mike as next of kin; 1 x James Slater aged 18 so not him as too young
 :-\

I have got a subscription to a military site so will have a look at this and see if this turns up anything.

Hi mirf

Have been able to piece together Richard/Maria, James Snr and brother Greenwood so maybe a trail might eventually lead to James Jnr

Thanks again for all your help so far  :)

Hi Keyboard86

To date, I have not found any military history, however, I will have a look a bit later on thanks for the tip  :)

Do you know the phone number for NASA ??!!! ;D

Thanks Mirf - looks like James Snr is easier than James Jnr - that's for sure right now  :)

I have no idea either, I have been looking for almost a year and am running out of places to look on-line

I do know that his life ended on a railway line but cannot find any details of his death either  :(

Hi Mirf

Thanks for the info - the 1881 census details are as per Keyboard86 earlier email - just trying to find a trail for these....

I have also just found the Richard/Maria parents of poss James Snr -
James Slater
Birth Date:   10 Mar 1841
Parish:   Bradford, St Peter (Bradford Cathedral)
Baptism Date:   16 Aug 1844
Father's Name:   Richard Slater
Mother's Name:   Maria Slater

Also this trail leads to 1851 census living at Sunny Bank; 1861 census living at Gay Lane.  Also confirms that James Snr was born Bradford which ties in with 1881 census....

Am on the hunt for 1871 census to join the pieces in this puzzle

Hi Mirf

Thanks for confirmation :)

Hi Keyboard86

With ref to your info on 1881 census, interesting to see that James Snr is single, born Bradford and no mention of James Jnr of which I was just typing a reply when your note came in ref the 1871 census.... so a big possibility that James Snr & Ann (Hannah) went and lived in same house in 1881..... hmm very interesting :)

Mind going into overdrive now with all sorts of questions, I will look at the census for above and hopefully get some answers :)

Thanks again

Hi

Yes she was  :)

I have looked at the 1901 census record you sent, it looks like it is a good match - thank you - I have been looking at the 1891 census records, found a James Slater - who was a coal miner but his son James (1871) is listed as a cotton weaver, so have saved this to my shoebox records until something concrete either confirms this or totally dismisses it  :-\

At least it is a start, so a long way to go yet :)
