Derry (Londonderry) / Re: William Kilpatrick, born in Coleraine about 1932

I hope it is not too late to join this topic on the Kilpatrick family? ;D My Kilpatrick family were protestant and were from either Derry or Armagh. James Kilpatrick was my GG grandfather, a linen draper who migrated from Dublin to Victoria, NSW, however his grave states he was born in Armagh and a note in my dad's scrap book says he was from Derry. He called his shop Ulster House. He named one of his children William Frederick Kilpatrick and that name carried on with another sister naming her son William Frederick Kilpatrick Wise. So the two names seem familial. Another son was called James John Thomas Kilpatrick. Yet another one was Alfred Hayes Kilpatrick. No ideas but pretty significant names. His father was listed on his marriage record as James Kilpatrick, farmer. Cheers Virginia

I need help finding the Murray family of Limerick, Ireland.  Ellen Frances Matilda Wise nee Murray, the information on her death certificate lists, father as Michael, mother as Ellen, my family tree information states she was from Prospect Hall (Hill), Limerick. She married William McOboy Wise, who was from Cork and they emigrated to Australia in 1851 and settled in Avoca, Victoria with their family of 6 children.  8)

Good Morning,

I am not sure if this is any help but I am researching a James Kilpatrick too (abt1821 - 1894), I have a photo of his gravestone in Avoca Cemetery, Victoria, Australia and it states that he was born in Armar (sic), Ireland, which I think must have been Armagh, this is a common spelling mistake in USA records too. He was 73 when he died in 1894. He was a protestant, United Church of England and Ireland, as stated on his marriage certificate, and he married Eliza Cranwill 1845, where it also states that his father was James. The Cranwills were a prominent Dublin family, some members are listed as gentleman farmers, doctors and would you believe a literary dilettente!

See Roots Web Maytree:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=AHN&db=carver3007&id=I15332

which also sources a Mr Kilpatrick as marrying Eliza Cranwill.

Marriage details:
Batch No M701615 Source Call No 0101269 Family Search IGI Individual Record Marriage of JAMES KILPATRICK of 4 CHARLEMONT PLACE, DUBLIN and ELIZA CRANWILL of 75 THOMAS ST, DUBLIN on 28 December 1845

This is the link to their marriage:

This is also a good reference source.

So a few coincidences although not exact birth date, but very near....

They then emigrated to Australia after 1851 but before 1856 and settled in the Goldfields area of Avoca. Gold was discovered in large quantities in about 1850 -60 and James is listed as a Digger with the Avoca Historical Society. I am his Great Great Grand daughter. I am still searching for the ship they emigrated on....

They had eight children before an epidemic descended on Avoca in 1864 and six of their eight children died in the space of three weeks in what can be only described as an absolute tragedy. Only  Elizabeth and Agnes Amelia (my G Grandmother) survived.  I have a photo of the grave, if you are interested and send me your email I could send it to you.

Alternatively you could contact the Avoca Cemetery who are happy to email photos of the gravestones and might have more information. I would love to hear more.

I look forward to hearing from you.
