Thankyou Trish, yes I do have that info now, I do think that is the correct family and there is an error on the marriage certificate which lists Henry as the father.

I think she was actually born about 1810 but baptised 5 years later, I might need to recheck that though. They both state full age on certificate, but i suppose that could be a fib as well

That is certainly what it looks like. I was also wondering, because it was 1835, would they have to register the marriages in 1837. Harriot seems to have an issue with her facts though, on her second marriage certificate to John Groombridge she states she is a spinster. Just one of those mysteries in researching our ancestors,

I am still researching George Clifton and have come across another stumbling block. I have a marriage certificate for George Clifton and Harriett Giles, married in 1837. I have now come across a Banns year for the marriage in 1835. Banns date 26 July 1835.Marriage place Lamberhurst. This does look like the same couple. How could we have 2 different years for a marriage. Also adding to this her first son was born in 1836 and she doesn't list a father for him. Maybe another error. I got a copy of the death certificate from Ore which the info was given to me by Kay99 and it was a perfect match. Thankyou Kay. Any ideas on the 2 different marriages?
Cheers

Thankyou very much for helping me, The info you have given me makes sense. I think there may be an error on the marriage cert. with the fathers details. I thankyou for your time and input.
I will concentrate now on George and Elizabeth who I think are the more probable parents of George.
Thanking you

Thankyou very much Kay for the link showing me the map of hastings. I have been researching George for awhile now but cannot seem to match his parents. His marriage cert, it states his father is Henry and witnesses Henry Clifton and Phoebe Clifton. The only Henry that I have found is married to a Susannah Butterfont but I don't think they had a son George.  Then there is a George Clifton who married Jemima Stapely in 1803 and they had a son George born 1806. The only Phoebe I have found was born in 1814 and her parents George Clifton and Elizabeth ?. I am thinking that there could be an error on his marriage cert, where Henry was put in by mistake as the father. I can't match Phoebe and Henry as siblings to George, and I thought they may be cousins to George. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes can help.
Thanking you
