Northamptonshire / Re: BAILEYS of Northamptonshire

Hi Dorothy,
I don't think that your John & his siblings are related to my line but now I have a bit more information I will check my Titchmarsh connections when I get home from work.

I have found all of the people you mentioned in your last message by looking up the passenger list of the Annie Wilson.....Gravesend to Auckland 1863.

I'm sure you are aware that John and his siblings are on the 1841 census for Titchmarsh and that his parents William & Harriet appear 1841 -1871.  They are both in their 70's in 1871 and as they don't appear on the 1881 census I suspect they had died.

Regards,
Chris Bailey

Hi, I have some Bailey's from Titchmarsh on my tree. Dorothy from Auatralia

Hi Dorothy,
Some of my direct line Bailey's are from Titchmarsh although I know none that went to Australia.  I do know that Bailey's from Grafton Underwood went to Australia and I have a fair bit of information on them.  I have also recorded the census returns for Titchmarsh 1841-1901.  I'm in the process of recording the 1911 census for the whole of Northamptonshire and I've not reached Titchmarsh yet.

Maybe you could tell me who your Bailey's are and I can see if they fit in my tree.

Kind regards,
Chris.

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Re: George William bailey? birth
« on: Monday 19 September 11 20:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi Julie,
Please let me know how you get on with the granddaughter of Edith and if indeed this is the correct George William .  I have lots more information about this family since my last post although unfortunately, for you, it's all about George William's aunts & uncles. One who emigrated to Australia in 1837 and became one of the first pioneers.

It would appear that George William is also on the 1911 census for Kettering Union Workhouse.  Age 63, born Grafton Underwood. Farm Labourer, Inmate.

Regards,
Chris.

This may be the one?
Jacob Swann to Sarah Pope 1 Feb 1813 Little Addington.  It's not far from Lowick!

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Re: Charles Bailey Burial Wollaston/Woodford

At first I thought it might be the Charles baptised in 1852 but I do not know his birth year which means that he could have been older than 8.  The second Charles was born Jan 1854 and although adding 8 years takes the date up to 1862 I now believe this is the correct Charles and that is why I'm trying to establish a death of the Charles born to John & Betsey between his baptism in 1852 and his step brothers birth in 1854.

Of course another option is that the first Charles could have been around 12 years old and working away from home.  I have the census returns for every parish in Northamptonshire and I cannot find him so the first option seems more plausible.

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Charles Bailey Burial Wollaston/Woodford
« on: Monday 22 August 11 14:42 BST (UK)  »
I have two Charles Baileys bap at Cranford St John. The same father John Bailey but different mothers. The first was Bap 22 Jan 1852 to John & Betsey Bailey. (I'm assuming Betsey was short for Elizabeth) This was from the marriage of John Bailey & Elizabeth Pentelow 1845 at Woodford. Elizabeth died in 1852 and John remarried Ann Abbott. Their first son was bap Charles 19 Mar 1854. So on the face of it John has 2 sons called Charles; one bap in 1852 and the other in 1854. The 1861 census shows John & Ann with 4 children but only 1 Charles. George 12 and William age 10 who are from his marriage to Elizabeth and Charles 8 and Joseph 5 from his second marriage to Ann. It would seem odd that John & Ann would call their first son Charles if the one from the previous marriage was still alive but I cannot find a burial for Charles, certainly not at Cranford.
Would anyone with burial records for either Woodford or Wollaston be kind enough to see if they can find the burial of Charles Bailey between 1852 and 1854.

Thank you,
Chris.

Thank you Sandy,

I searched all of the Hugh Wallis records for the surname Bailey many years ago and I'm sure I recorded them all.  Still best I check my records....just in case.

Regards,
Chris.

Thank you for the reply and link.
I'm researching every occurrence of the surname Bailey in Northamptonshire and I'm looking for the earliest records available.   I have a few from Kettering but other than visiting the NRO are there any records on line?
Many thanks.
