Thanks...I also wonder whether there a a link to Pattyndenn Manor in Goudhurst and perhaps the title "Pattenden" would have been Lord of the Manor?

Thank you for that Jim,I will have to try and get hold of a copy of the will.Someone along the line has got this information (regarding parentage) from somewhere,so the answer must be out there!

Kent / Henrie Pattenden 1542 East Peckham,Kent
« on: Saturday 29 March 14 16:11 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me with this one?My 10th Great Grandfather was Henrie Pattenden 1542-1593,born and died in East Peckham,Kent.I am unable to find details to confirm his parentage. On several matching sites on Ancestry his parents are named as Richard (de)Clifford and Ann Stafford, but others fail to name his parents. As the surname differs, could it be that perhaps he was born the wrong side of the blanket or could it be some kind of honorary name bestowed upon him? Other children born to the parents named above bear the surname "de Clifford",and there is even a Henry Clifford born of the same parents in 1537,but he has a different spouse(Anne Devereux),whereas my Henrie married 4 times (!) Annis Kenworth in 1572,(2) Margaret Stanford in 1573,(3)Elnor Sutor in 1582 and Faythe Cotchman in 1591.If anyone could solve this mystery I would be so very grateful.

Thank you,Janis for your help.I did find a death for Robert in 1798 on the durhamrecordsonline website.I am beginning to wonder if George's parents actually were William and Esther as I also came across a death for a George Wood 20.11.1768 St Hilda's South Shields, parent named as William, which would mean that all this time I have been researching the wrong parents...it may explain why I have hit this brick wall.Hopefully,I will come up with the answer.Anyway...I am grateful for your help.

Durham / Records for George Wood and his family South Shields/Chester-le-Street
« on: Tuesday 09 April 13 18:11 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please help me with this one as I am completely stumped? My ancestor.George  Wood is shown on familysearch.org's website as being baptised 31/5/1767 at Chester-le-Street.He had the following siblings:Elizabeth 1753,William 1755,Jonathan 1757,James 1759,Joseph 1762,Catherine 1764 and Susannah 1769(all siblings were baptised in South Shields on these dates). He married Margaret Copeland 13/4/1790 in Chester-Le Street.I am unable to find any kind of record for any of the family on Ancestry.George's father was a William Wood was born in South Shields(date unknown) and his wife is shown as Esther. The only Esther that fits is an Esther Craigs, who married William Wood 29/12/1790 in South Shields, but again I am unable to find a birth record for her.I have tried in vain to find matches for the family but it is almost as if they never existed. Can anyone help ?

Hello David,
Thanks for getting back to me!I am sorry that I cannot find details of your George Wood.I was born a Wood and my side of the family have their roots around Chester-Le-Street/South Shields/Sunderland/Newcastle areas and included a lot of miners, many living in miners' cottages. As mentioned in my previous post my ancestor was William Wood, brother of Robert(your ancestor) and through William's wife,Mary Liddle I was able to trace connections to the Plantagenets and Royal families of Europe right back to the Vikings.
Regarding your George...I wonder why he was living with his uncles and aunt-were his other siblings also living there at the time of the 1851 census?I wondered if perhaps their parents died and the other members of the family took them in.Another thought struck me...if your George had been shown as a mariner it could be the reason why he was not on the 1841 census,if he had been away at sea?
As this is only my 2nd posting to you I won't be able to  pm you yet.By the way my actual relationship to George Denham Wood is I am his 2nd cousin's great grandaughter!
RegardsMargaret Dent(nee Wood)

This is amazing....George Wood b.1766 Chester Le Street was my GGGG grandfather,I am related to his son William born 1795 and can link to some of the names you have listed.William is listed as a painter(whether that is in art or house painter).A lot of the family were coal miners,so it is possible that your George Wood (1790) followed suit.George, born 1766 ,who married Margaret Copeland is the son of William Wood, born South Shields(date unknown) and Esther(surname unknown).I am sorry that I cannot help you in your search for George's demise, but if by chance he WAS a miner there could possibly have been a pit disaster.

Durham Lookup Requests / CARR from Chester le Street
« on: Saturday 14 April 12 15:31 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the ancestors of Mary Ann Carr, baptised Chester le Street 1828.She married Thomas Hudson Wood in Benwell on 20/11/1847.Her father is listed as Thomas Carr and mother as Jane(no surname).I am not sure of her father's date of birth, but there was a Thomas Carr baptised in Chester le Street 30/10/1798,parents Robert Carr/Jane Rennox,
There are two marriages I have found between a Thomas Carr/spouse Jane....Jane Robinson in Bishopwearmouth on 8/3/1815 and Jane Crookes in Sunderland 27/12/1820.Could either of these be Mary Ann's mother and did she have any siblings?
As I only have a baptism date and not an actual date of birth how can I get her birth certificate.Help!
Regards,Margaret
