I've just found this post about these families, and think I may be able help.
Firstly, about the post from Vonngirl. I found the extract from her grandmother's letter by clicking on her name and bringing up her other posts. Once you do that I can probably help you decipher it. It's just a guess, and I might be completely wrong, but I think the letter writer may have been my g.aunt.
I was born in Tasmania, and am directly descended from the Turnbulls who emigrated there in the early 19th century, and also from the Sandilands, Lord Torphichen family. I have a fair bit of information, although not all of it is as well organised as I would like. However, I would be pleased to help you in this regard in any way I can.
