Many thanks Jim1 your explanation makes sense. I wondered if it was the same woman 'through the ages' as the hair looks sort of consistent. I need to find more info on the elusive Elizabeth Downes to confirm it's her.
Once again thanks for your help.

Thanks Jim1
Here are the reverse of each photo. Each scan is the whole of each photo.

I have 'inherited' some family photographs many of which have no details as to who they are. I'm slowly working my way through them and have got stuck with these three photos.
I think they are Elizabeth Down(e)s and her daughter Mary Ann. The first photo I think is of Mary when she was younger(?) the second with her children. Mary Ann lived 1870 to 1951; I have no dates for Elizabeth yet.
If the dates match for Mary the children are possibly George WALKE 1890 - 1918 and Elizabeth Annie WALKER 1893 - 1950.
Can anyone help with dating these photos please?
Many thanks

This picture was among a box of pictures I 'inherited'. It appears to be on black glass substrate and the image is susceptible to scratching (I currently store it in a plastic box surrounded by cotton wool).
Firstly, can someone give me an idea of what date this is likely to have been taken, and
Secondly what is the best way to store/preserve the photograph.
Thank you

Thanks Wiggy, but I'll probably have a go at restoration myself when I get a bit of time.

Many thanks Jim1. On those dates it's not who I thought it was, time for a rethink.

I think this may be either Hannah Lowe 1842 to 1868 or her sister Sarah Lowe 1839 to 1915. I have included a scan of the back of the photo. From her clothing are there any ideas as to date?
Thanks

Thank you all that resolves that issue.

Never heard my Grandfather described as a clerk before - farmer, labourer, market gardener, haulier - but never clerk; this warrants further investigation...

I'm trying to find the name of the steamship on this ticket that my Grandfather used to come back to the UK in 1912. I can find no record on the immigration records/passenger lists. Any ideas anyone?
