Claire,
Any way to rule out that Robert did indeed come from Boddington? Is there a late 1600's Boddington register that may show his baptism there? If he was not born in Boddington then Shotteswell is a strong candidate. As you say he may have named his son after his father. There is a Dorothy as well in the family who would have been a grand daughter.
Thank you for your help!

Thanks Claire,
I will look into these clues and hopefully they will lead to something I can work with.

Hertfordshire / Izzards of Wallington Hertfordshire & Boddington Northamptonshire?
« on: Wednesday 17 January 18 01:39 GMT (UK)  »
I have traced my ancestors back to Boddington Northamptonshire mostly using the 1708 - 1800's Boddington Registers. No Izzard was recorded until 1725 when a Robert Izzard married an Elizabeth Basely. This is where my search ended until I discovered a Robert Izzard born in Wallington Hertfordshire to parents John and Elizabeth in 1694. He would have married at the age of 31. My question is did this Robert travel to Boddington to find his beloved Elizabeth? or ... please fill in the blanks. I thank you all for jumping on this one. Records in the 17th century are as scarce as hens teeth!

Oh my! Such responses!
Karenlee, I appreciate your research and your jump start. I have come across these records as well but they still leave unanswered questions. Cheers back.

Seahall, the Northants Marriage Indexes and the freebmd information is great but as you point out this is not solving the problem.

southistle, I wondered the same regarding a possible misreading of the name Joseph. I have come across errors like this before. There are just too many records with the name Job. I believe there was a Job but as you point out he may not have been the father of Thomas. Thomas remarried when he came to Canada in about 1913 after his wife past away. The name Joseph was clearly written on the marriage certificate as being his father along with Mary Ann Wagstaff his mother. Hmmm. I wasn't expecting so many twists and turns in my ancestral search.

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Izzard family search in Northamptonshire
« on: Monday 17 October 11 01:58 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to confirm my findings that my grandfather Thomas C. Izzard born 1877 in Floore was the son of Job Izzard born 1836 in Weedeon Bec married to Mary Ann Wagstaff born 1837 in Floore. My grandfather's marriage certificate indicates that his father's name was Joseph. Either the name Joseph replaced Job at some point in time or perhaps I have the wrong family line. Job Izzard was in the 2nd Battalion 17th Regiment & Depot 1st Battalion 17th Regiment. This regiment was stationed for a few years in Nova Scotia, Canada. Job had a second son John who interestingly enough was born in Nova Scotia in 1863. However, I cannot find any records indicating that Job had a son Thomas. Other than this misconnection and the name Job all seems to add up. I have searched several months in ancestry.ca to find a Joseph Izzard, married to Mary Ann Wagstaff with a son Thomas C. Izzard to no avail. Job's family traces back to a Robert Izzard born 1700 in Boddington. I do not know if it is Upper or Lower Boddington. Any information on this Izzard family in Northamptonshire would be appreciated. I need to know if there is a connection showing that Job is indeed my great grandfather.
