Thanks for clarifying the lack of wills, I will check out the manorial records when I can get back up to Ipswich, been concentrating on the Westleton area where I thought my roots might be.

Thanks for the information it does help identify the building as possibly Hales Hall. It was also useful in confirming the number of different versions of the name Jordan and also in placing Henry in either Darsham or Westleton, probably Westleton, I have a Henry noted there in 1638. I have yet to find a linked will for William which I assume would have existed given a property with 10 hearths.

Brampton Hearth Tax returns 1674

Does anyone know where the 3 large houses listed in the Returns actually stood, one with 10 hearths was owned by the Leman family and is known to have burnt down in 1733 and was probably replaced by Brampton Hall.  The other 2 one with 10 hearths was owned by William Jurdan, the other with 7 hearths was owned by Sir Robert Yallop. I would assume they were timber framed constructions and will have probably have disappeared into the ground, but what about the lands they may have had, I can find no reference to these either at present.

Have recently come back to research this family (my grandmothers line) having filled in a lot of gaps I would like to find out more about the children of James and Susan (marriage 25 April 1757 Leiston St Margarets) Does anyone have access to, or details from the parish register for Leiston St Margarets for the period 1757 - 1770. To date I have found a number of possible children but cannot prove attribution.

Norfolk / Re: Littlewood Family Great Yarmouth
« on: Thursday 02 October 14 18:00 BST (UK)  »
My grandmother was Edith Mary Littlewood with a birth date of 1888, she was born in Gt Yarmouth and certainly had a sister Ethel, Millie or Mildred has been mentioned but since the name exists of both sides of the family I am not sure which one.

I have unsubstantiated evidence of another John Littlewood as her grandfather, she also had at least two brothers, Sidney who I met, he was a printer, and Ernest who was lost in the Great War.

Norfolk / Littlewood Family Great Yarmouth
« on: Thursday 02 October 14 15:03 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone researching the Littlewoods from Great Yarmouth, my grandmother (b about 1890) was a member of a large family that split far and wide. I have few records to date other than her father and grandfather were John Littlewood.

I am also looking for the Thompson family and have tracked them back to Joseph Thompson living on Elm Hill in Norwich in the late 1700s. Can anyone extend back further.

For both families there were rumours of a Scottish ancestry but nothing has ever been proven.

Suffolk / Re: Jordans in Iken
« on: Wednesday 17 September 14 12:20 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for the information and possible leads, we now know with a degree of certainty that Abraham and Barbara were not married in Iken, nor was Abraham baptised there so they must have moved to the parish sometime around 1760. Sadly settlement records do no seem to have survived from this period so I am now searching surrounding parishes.

Does anyone know of any land movements, eg enclosures or changes of ownership around this time?

Essex / Robert Aylen Parents
« on: Tuesday 26 August 14 19:07 BST (UK)  »
Robert Aylen, born in North End Essex about 1810, Married Lucy Saunders in 1838 at St Peter and St Paul church Grays Thurrock. On their marriage certificate Roberts father is given as Thomas 'Ayling' (Aylen).

Does anyone have any written evidence as to whether Roberts mother was Mary and to where in Essex his father Thomas was born.
