Hi Halcyon,  It is a long time since I did this research, and I have a Tree on Ancestry with a lot of detail, a good deal of it thanks to RootsChat!    William and Mary Jane had four children, William Jnr, Charles, Margaret (known as Rose) and John, my grandfather.   William had 7 children, 2 died in infancy, 1 son drowned while fishing, aged 19, another son died at Gallipoli.  Charles had 2.  Margaret died aged 16 and John had 4 children.  William Snr was first a gold miner, then he had a coal mine in Southland.    If you give me an email address I can give you a lot more information.  What is your connection to the Pacey family?

Kind regards, Anne    Please remember that you only exchange email by private message - admin

Hi Shane,

Yes, they were RC and I will certainly try that website.  Thank you for
your suggestion.

Trying to find information on my great grandmother, who married in Castlemaine, Australia in 1856.  She was from Mitchelstown, Cork and the marriage certificate gives her age as 21, parents William McCarthy, farmer
and Margaret Mahony.  That would put her date of birth about 1835.

Does anyone have access to parish records for that area?  Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Annejp

Thanks Carol,

I will get a copy of Thomas's.

It appears I am descended from a long line of publicans!!  My grandfather's
two brothers had pubs in NZ.  The elder, William (of course) was a gold miner, went to the Yukon, made his pile, came home, bought a pub and a year later was bankrupt.  Didn't stop him though, he had several more over the years, in different parts of NZ & one in Fiji.

Cheers,  Anne

Hi Cando,
Hope this is the right way to do this after a time lapse!  I went looking for Sarah Chester and couldn't find her, so I put a request on the Nottinghamshire board and they found a marriage :

William Pacey of East Stoke age 21 & Elizabeth Chester of Stapleford age 21
married by licence 16 May 1832 - witnesses Richard Gilbert & Anne Chester.

His parents were Thomas Pacey & Sarah Gilbert married 6 Jan 1810 East Stoke.

Children of Wm & Elizabeth : Robert Gilbert born 15 Feb 1835
                                              Anne Frances    "     20 apr 1836

You mentioned there were other Paceys in Vic from East Stoke & Lincolnshire, do any of these names tie up?

Thanks Anne

Hi,

Thank you SO much!    It is all starting to tie up.  My grandfather was
named John Thomas,  elder brother William.

I don't know who came to Australia with WR.  He lived in Castlemaine,
Victoria, and there are a lot of Pacey's in that area.  I haven't been able
to establish a connection to any of the other families.

Thank you again, I am very grateful!
I would put a smiley face on but haven't worked out how yet!

Anne

Hi, Sunflower & Nottsgirl,

Thanks for your replies.  The marriage is a possibility, but I don't think the birth is as my gg father also called his first son William.

By any chance was there a second name on that marriage, as the death
certificate of ggf gave his fathers name as Gilbert and I wondered if he may have been Willam Gilbert.   Ggf was called WR to differeniate him from his son
William.  It gets very confusing, doesn't it!!!
