I am wondering if anyone might have access to any local newspapers that would have an obituary for Dr William Scott of Clarence Cottage, Ruthwell. Dr Scott died in Dumfries Infirmary in December 1927 aged 68.
He was born in Keith, Banffshire and was the son of James Scott and his wife Christina Shearer.
He married his first wife Elizabeth Anderson McDonald in Elgin in 1883. She died in Dumfries in 1913 aged 55. He married his second wife Sarah McGillivray in Logie/Stirling in 1916.
I am hoping an obituary might tell me where he was buried.
Thank you

Aberdeenshire / Re: RITCHIE OR RICHARDSON, PARISH OF CAIRNIE

Thank you Forfarian - I should have thought of checking the original baptisms for the Richardson entries. They are indeed at the same place - Gingomires - so Margaret Ritchie and Margaret Richardson are the same person.

Aberdeenshire / RITCHIE OR RICHARDSON, PARISH OF CAIRNIE
« on: Thursday 09 June 22 16:05 BST (UK)  »
I am just looking for some advice/opinions please.

My 3 x great grandmother Mrs Margaret Robson nee Mellis died at Alehousehillock in the Parish of Cairnie on 3rd January 1865 aged 68. Her death certificate gives her parents names as James Mellis and Margaret RITCHIE.  She was born on 6th February 1796.

Other children born to James Mellis and Margaret RITCHIE were -

Isobel Mellis born  1789
Anne Mellis born  1798
Janet Mellis born 1801

In his book "The Parish of Cairnie" by James Pirie, published in 1906, he mentions the family of William Mellis and his wife Jane Norrie. He states that they had a son, James Mellis born in 1757 who married Margaret RICHARDSON and that this couple had a daughter Janet Mellis born in 1800 who married Robert Shearer.  Janet Mellis wife of Robert Shearer died on 25th October 1850 aged 50, so no death certificate for her but the Cairnie OPR record the baptism of Janet Mellis on 20th August 1801 and give her parents names as James Mellis and Margaret RITCHIE.

The OPRs also show the children of James Mellis and Margaret RICHARDSON -

Jean Mellis born 1787
Christian Mellis born 1791
William Mellis born 1793.

My question is - is it possible that Margaret Ritchie and Margaret Richardson are the same person OR  has the writer James Pirrie confused two different families?

I found a death in Keith of Mrs Ann MacIntyre  in 1888 aged 89 whose death certificate gives her parents names as James Mellis and Margaret RICHARDSON - could this possibly be the Anne Mellis mentioned above whose mother was Margaret RITCHIE ?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks for all your help. I looked out John's marriage certificate of 1922. Interesting to note he was married by his uncle, rev John Scott of Auchterless.

Thank you so much - that is the James I was looking for. John was possibly his brother?

I am searching for information on two brothers, James Scott born 1890 and John Scott born 1892, two of the family of James Scott and his wife Ann Stewart. I have seen two names on the Keith War Memorial,  James Scott and John Scott. Might they have been the two brothers I am looking for?
One of their sisters was Annie Scott who married James Annand in Keith in 1913. James was manager in the Strathisla Distillery. Annie's son was the Revd James Annand, a Church of Scotland clergyman.
Any information would be much appreciated.

Argyllshire / Re: help with Dugald McInness parents
« on: Tuesday 08 June 21 11:51 BST (UK)  »
Just seen this post. Dugald MacInnes and his wife Kate Johnston were my great great great grandparents. I am descended from their son Donald MacInnes and his wife Catherine MacColl. I have a HUGE amount on the family. They were Episcopalians so very few records of the family appear in the OPR.  The family did originate in Callart before crossing Loch Leven to Carnoch and Tigh Phuirst in the mid 1820's. Kate Johnston was from the abandoned settlement of Tollie in Glen Nevis.
Dugald did indeed have a brother Hugh(Ewen) from whom the late Bishop Duncan MacInnes (Episcopal Bishop of Moray was descended), a brother Duncan, a brother Angus and a sister Mary that I know about. Many many descendants scattered across the world of John MacInnes and Kate Rankin.
