Dear Shirl27 and Nookie,

I am also searching for information relating to Brixton cemetery but am getting bouncebacks from the email address braamfontein@jhbcityparks.com.  Please can you tell me whether the Brixton burial register is available online as late as 1937?  I have looked for the burial register online but cannot find it.  I am seeking information about a man named Barnett SOLOMON(S) who died on 23 Dec 1937, aged 73.  I would also like to find his estate file but cannot find Transvaal estates listed on the NAAIRS database - am I missing something?

I would also like to find information about his wife Sarah SOLOMON(S), who was I believe buried at Westpark Cemetery after her death on 9 Jul 1952, aged 80.  Again I am receiving bouncebacks from the Westpark Cemetery email. I am hoping her estate file might be available too.

I am new to SA research so any guidance would be very gratefully received.

World War Two / Deciphering code for Navy/ Air Arm rankings
« on: Saturday 07 January 12 15:16 GMT (UK)  »
I am hoping someone can help me decipher some code found in a WW2 Application Book for Royal Navy Good Conduct and Long Service Medals.

The person in question has 'a/ch AA' listed under 'rating or ranking'.  I am assuming the latter means 'Air Arm' but what does 'a/ch' stand for?

Under date received (which is 26 June 1950) there is also a code which looks like 'WOP' or 'OP'.  The rest of the people in the list mostly just have a 'P' in this column next to their name.

Finally, the person's official rating is L/FX75949.  I'd like to know whether the 'L' means anything specifically?

Thanks very much in advance for any light you can shed.

Thanks Brian. The man's name was Howard Sloane and if I am right, he was born in Gravesend in May 1924. He is listed as a private in the Welch Regiment.

Dear Lucy and Brian,

I am also interested in Konin Zaganski and what I assume was another camp in the complex Kunau Kz Sprottau/Sagan.  I am researching a man who I believe was imprisoned there.  I think he survived (so assume took part in the death march) but was very damaged by the experience and never made contact with his family in Kent again after the war.

I have looked at the camp website and have also ordered the records you mention from the NA.  Are there any general histories of the camp that I can read?

Do you know generally how British POWs came to be at Zagan?

Do you know where I can find the prisoner records.  Ancestry and Find My Past indicate that the 'Exeter Infantry Record Office' hold them but I can find no record of this office anywhere.

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed.

Best wishes, Naomi Leon
