So, managed to get a look at the records on findmypast but not offering any definite answers.  The first form is called militia attestation for the 4th Bn. Oxon Lt. Infty Regiment dated 11th October 1898.  On the Statement of Services sheet there is an entry which reads "Embodied 1 May 00 to 3 7 1901"

Does anybody know what embodied means?

Thanks
Louise

Hello

I was wondering if anyone could help me.  I have an ancestor Fred Bowley on the 1901 census attached to the above regiment but in Victoria Barracks in Portsmouth.  I can find no military records for him and am wondering if they were stationed at Victoria Barracks on their way to The Boer War?  Any suggestions how I go about getting some more information would be great'

Thanks
Louise

Armed Forces / Army Service Records Before WW1
« on: Monday 07 May 12 23:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for a relative, George Young, who was born in Reading Berkshire.  I have his WW1 service records in which he states that his previous military service was with the Royal Berks Regiment 2nd Batallion.  I also have a 1911 census for a George Young in India which states that he was married.

I have a family member who says that he served in India and some of his children were born there so it is likely I have the correct person.

My question is, is there any records or sites where I can get more information, ie service records for his army career before he rejoined in 1915 and birth records for any children?

Many thanks
Louise

I've also been researching the Sawyer family, a different branch, and I quite often find them as Sayer as well as Sawyer, just a thought :)

Hello, yes it is the same Gladys Rose.  Are you researching the same family?

Best regards
