Completed Census Requests / William Etherington 1851/1861 census

Could anyone help me please.  I'm trying to track down this elusive soul on any census - except 1871, which I have!).  William (possibly E) Etherington born Birmingham about 1828.  By 1863 he is married to Mary Wright (nee Jeffrey, born Norwood Green)) and has a daughter also Mary (born 1863 St Lukes, Middx) and is a Dredgerman and the family are living Macclesfield Rd Cottages, St Matthew Finsbury.  I can also find no record of his marriage to Mary!

Any info or ideas for further research would be most gratefully recieved

Thanks  Bambino

Thanks very much again - I shall get a copy.

Think the posties of the time must have been well rewarded - Benjamin ended up being pretty well off and a 'Gentleman' on a future census!!

With all your experience, Bryant, do you know if there is anywhere specific where I might be able to find further info about victorian careers with the post?

Thanks - Louise

Hello Bryant!

V. Excited to receive your reply - been battling with this one for ages But it looks like a pretty good match - although I know Benjamin was born in Woodstock, Oxfordshire - but ages etc all correct - and Benjamin was a letter carrier so I would imagine a Sup postn - whatever that is, is related!

I don't suppose you have a census ref no. do you?

Thank you very much

Louise

Thanks for your v.prompt reply, John!

This could well be her - I've had other instances of ancestors in service place of birth being inaccurately recorded.

Best regards - Bambino

Hi

I'm searching for a SOPHIA HAMMOND, born Rishangles, Suffolk, 1850.

She is still living with her family in Rishangles in 1861 - and in 1873 she married a JOHN HAWKES in St Johns, Southwark.  I find her next with the family in 1881 in West Ham.

Would be grateful for any info. Thanks

Hi Biker!

Yes please!  I'm still searching for this motley crew! And no, I have no further info prior to 1861 after which they bounce around Holbon/Clerkenwell/Islington.

I have not found them on the 1851 yet either, but in 1844 Charles/Thomas Thomas/Charles Knight married Elizabeth Warner (b. St Lukes,Middx) and around 1849-1851 possibly had children, Mary Ann (b. St Andrews, Holborn and I think Laura? b Clerkenwell.

Any info, gratefully received!

Many thanks

Louise

What a fascinating web site! Thanks so much  :)
Some fab pictures!  Had a quick scan, but not found them yet, tho annoyingly I think most of the family had moved to Queens St for the 1851 and others were in Upper Hill St!
Still, it's a great point of reference for further investigation.

Thanks again!
