Still here Mal.  Have noticed that there is a Codd on the War Memorial at Dale,Pembs. Born at St Ishmaels(Pembs),he was the son of Thomas and Sarah Jane Codd. Private John Codd 46477,Welsh Reg was killed in action at Messines in 1917 aged 27 years. No known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres memorial. He left a wife and 2or 3 children.     hoping you're well.

Hallo Mal,  I O U a big apology, regarding Greataunt Sarah your Grandads sister.  I met up yesterday with the grandson of Sarah and Thomas James(Jutland) and found that she was not a Codd.  The only connection she had to our Codds was the fact that she was the sister of Thomas John who married Martha Codd, my Gran.  Sorry to have got it all wrong.   It looks as if the search is back on for Sister Sarah.  I only know that she had left home by 1901,possibly to go into service or get married.      Be seeing you.   Good luck with your  searching.

Mal,  Some info to correct previous info I gave on Greataunt Sarah.  Her husband was a Thomas James and he was serving on the Warrior when he was killed at Jutland.    The 2 sons were Arthur and Edward.   I have'nt yet got a date for the marraige or venue but it may have been in Herbrandston.    Be seeing you.

I noticed from the 1911 Census that Tobias was now living in Upper Rickeston Mill. Not sure whether they moved home or just acquired more land. I didn't realise that they was a jetty near Lower Rickeston - but I can see with Google Earth that there is an inlet from the coast at that point

I can see a Sarah A Codd marrying a Richard John in 1913 - but no other marriages up to 1916 (the battle of Jutland) - and no obvious births for Arthur and Edward

When my Grandad, Tommy John of Rickeston Mill felt like an ale, he would sneak off to his favourite watering hole,
which was the Sloop at Sandy Haven.  This meant crossing the creek by foot so he had to watch the tide and even worse he had to take shelter from Granny's wrath when he returned.  The Sloop, long gone, was a very popular venue with the local menfolk. Anyone who remembers Granny Pattie will know that Tommy did'nt manage to escape very often, he dare'nt.   Will pass on your greetings to my cousin.  Thank you.

Thank you very much for the info on Greatuncle Willie's family.  It will be of great interest to the surviving famiily of  Beats as they don't know a lot on the family background..   I will pass it on.  Best wishes from Gull Country.

Re Rickeston Mill, now a Nursing home.  There was another mill a little further up the valley on the left bank of the river and where I understood the Devonalds to have lived. If you continued upstream you come to yet another mill called  Syke Mill which is in Walwyns Castle parish. There was only one mill as far as I know in the Marloes Sands area and that was Marloes Court Mill.  We locals still refer to that part of the beach as the Mill.

The Devonalds lived at Rickeston UPPER Mill and the Codds at Rickeston LOWER Mill, the latter being where I was born  and which is now the Nursing Home.   Obviously, the river proved to be no obstacle to courtship.  Best wishes.

Re my grandparents at Rickeston mill.    Martha John died in 1947 aged 62 and Tommy in 1965 aged 82.   Their son Walter Robert(Bob) died in 1976 aged 65; his wife Winifred in 2000 aged 87.   Martha's sister Sarah lived in the Blackbridge area of Milford.  Any help?
