Thanks very much for the four Judge names. Two of them ,William(my GF),and Pauline(my aunt) are of course my im mediate family. The other two I c an't identify offhand, but  being in Nfld.,I assume they are related. I had an Aunt Ellen Judge also, but different husband name....possibly she remarried in USA.
So your information is  helpful....thanks very much.

Canada Lookup Requests Completed / Re: JUDGE family, Ireland to Newfoundland

Thanks to people who contacted me to help. There is a problem I always find everwhere....immgrants to Newfoundland really meant that...to the country of Newfoundland, but I can never find that on the genealogy websites, only Canada. Some then say to select province, and then have only records for Canada anyway, none for Newfoundland. Canada records for,say 1790 or 1830,had  no lists of immigrants or  census reports, directories etc. for Newfoundland. Why would they? It would be like going to Germany to find the French data-base.  But I do wish  they would add in these records now , since Nfld. joined Canada in 1949.
So sadly we need  records of emigrants from Ireland going to Newfoundland, nothing to do with the separate country of Canada. Thanks. Ward. (I do of course check out all these Canadian  sites, always hoping that one day....). Did some of  the Judges come to Nfld. briefly and then move on to Canada or USA ? Probably, but without a record for Nfld.,we can't know.

Roscommon / JUDGE family, Ireland to Newfoundland.

JUDGE is a very rare surname in Newfoundland, so much so that almost every JUDGE I have been able to find there over past 200 years is related to me.  So if anyone in the area of Roscommon,Sligo,Mayo  knows of ANY person named JUDGE who moved to Newfoundland in late 1700's up to about 1830, then it's about 98% certain you just found my ancestor. Hope someone can help. Thanks. Ward.

One Name Studies: H to M / JUDGE family, Ireland to Newfoundland
« on: Friday 09 December 05 03:00 GMT (UK)  »
JUDGE is a very rare surname in Newfoundland.  Almost all are related to me. As yet,I don't have the connection point to Ireland.I think they arrived in Nfld. in early 1800's from  the genearal area of Sligo,Mayo,Roscommon. I am hoping some Judge family has a record of a relative who moved to Nfld. at that time. It's about 98% certain that any male Judge you find moving to Nfld. at that time is my ancestor.Obviously I would like to  make the  connection to Ireland and trace the  family back there. Common names in the Nfld. Judges in mid-1800's were Patrick,Joseph,Peter,William, Jeremiah, John,James,Mary,Bridget,Margaret,Elizabeth, Hannah, Anne,Honora(h), Ellen.   Has anyone got Judge Irish trees you can share with me by email, in case I can make a connection somewhere along the line? I have made up 57 pages of Newfoundland Judges which i am willing to share.

Dublin / Re: CORBIN, DANIEL, DAVID, WILLIAM

Hi Shirley...although I am writing from Australia,I was born in Newfoundland.I would really like to hear from  you re Corbin family. I don't have a lot of information, but I do have a Daniel, a Sarah, and others, of the right vintage.
I have been researching  my  GREENE family of POINT VERDE , Newfoundland, all over the genealogy places, and you are  the first   person I have found connected to the Corbin side of my Greene family.
Briefly, about 1778 my ancestor John Green moved from Boston to Placentia,Newfoundland. With his brother he started nearby Point Verde. Later he married the widow of his friend John Corbin, and of course these  two together (John Green and Widow Corbin) started the huge line of Point Verde Greenes.(e added in Point Verde).
Of course she was  not born Corbin, but I am tracing her that way because I have no idea of her maiden name. Perhaps you have some  idea of what that might have been, and I can give you what I have on your Corbins. My email address is all over the genealogy sites,so I don't mind printing it here. Thanks...Ward/
