Hello,
My apologies for the delay in replying. Thank you for the information. So there are still relatives in Letterkenny! That is wonderful news. I live in Sussex so don't get over to Ireland very often. If you were able to find any information about Mary Anne and her family, I would be grateful. All of her children except one left the area and moved all over the world, therefore I know little about the family in Letterkenny.
Best wishes.

It is lovely to hear from you.

My great grandmother was James's sister, Mary Anne. Do you know much about the family in Drumnashamer? I believe their parents were Anthony and Anne. Other than this, I know nothing.

Hello,

Further information concerning your family. I am related to the Keanes. I do not know much about the Casey family. The details you find in the Census for 1901 and 1911 relates to Ellen's grandfather, John Snr. He lived in the family home and took over ownership from his mother. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai000858296/ and http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kerry/Portmagee/Portmagee_Town/105278/. I have been told this house was by the water's edge and the house by the bridge is a different house which was built by John Jnr when he got married. I have been in the house when John's brother lived there. My mother nor I remember it being pink.

My link to you is through John Snr.'s sister, Ellen. Your grandmother was called after her. It seems the family would also call your grandmother Nell.

There are strong links with Valentia Island. I think John Snr's mother came from there but John's father was from the Portmagee area. I can go back a little further but not much.

I will send you by private message your direct ancestors (as much as I know it). If you have more information about the family, I would appreciate it.

Any queries, please contact me.

Hello,
It is wonderful to actually hear from someone related to me!

I do not know if there are any living relatives in the area. I believe Nora and Jackie had children. They may be still in the area. There is a heritage centre on Valentia Island and you may be able to get more information. When I tried, the information available was quite limited. I met Nora and Jackie many years ago. You may know more about them than me. Do you know any more about the family and the siblings of John and his father, also John? I know a little but I do not want to tell you what you may already know, but I will be happy to give you what I can.

Many thanks for the information.

I have seen these records and I initially thought I had found them all but the problem is that there is a place called Drumnasharragh which is not far from Drumnashammer. It might not be a spelling/transcription error.

best wishes.

Thank you!

Of course, a tea agent! He was a tea merchant in 1911. I was looking in Tyrone and the part of Donegal in which he was born. I know he was in Tyrone in 1908 so I was getting fixated on that area.

Thanks again.

Donegal / Gallaghers of Drumnashammer

Hello,

I have come to a bit of halt in my search for the Gallagher family of Drumnashammer.

They are Anthony Gallagher born circa 1840, died 1906. Ann (nee Gallagher) born circa 1838. This complicates matters as I don't know if they were distantly related before they married.

So far, I have the following children: Mary Anne born 1861, Catherine born 1867, Daniel born 1872, Patrick born 1874 and James born circa 1877.

I can find the family in the 1901 and 1911 census but I really would like to know if there were any more children and to where they emigrated? I have looked at various records but Gallagher is a very popular name and if the person didn't specify Drumnashammer, I'm lost!

Any help appreciated.

Tyrone / James Gallagher Newtown Stewart

Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help.

I am trying to locate more details for a James Gallagher who was born in Drumnashammer, Co. Donegal, circa 1877. By 1908, he seems to be in Newtown Stewart. In the 1911 census, I think the same James Gallagher lives at 13 Main Street with his wife, Annie and their children. I am having problems locating him in 1901 and I cannot find his marriage details.

In 1911, his children are Annie Josephine, age 4, Andy John, age 2 and Anthony Redmond, age 1.

Any info would be appreciated.
