Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: Hampshire Bramshott
« on: Sunday 19 November 23 11:45 GMT (UK)  »
I have a Strudwick x 2 that I have not cracked as yet.

1
I have a autosomal DNA connection to Strudwick, 3rd Cousin - 5th Cousin, so not that far away but I have not been able to connect.

2
Also I have a George Strudwick b.1763 Bramshott? Res. Hurst Berks, m Bramshott, 1783 Mary Greentree b,1762(?) Empshott, children Robert b.1789, Elizabeth b.1792 William b.1798, all Bramshott?

George' parents maybe Robert Strudwick b.1732 & Ann Mary Baxter b.1741

Mary then married John Butler 1790 (my line).

Your James Clacher is my 3rd great grand uncle. I have some information going back to James Clacher who is my 6th great grandfather, and some information going forward. One of the Clacher girls married a brackenridge who is related to the breckridge mentioned in the article about smuggling.
There is a monument on Girvan seafront dedicated to Alexander Clacher b. 1803(?) who was the son of James & Janet.

Jack

I cannot see a match in FTDNA in my Family Finder (autosomal) DNA.
If you have tested your autosomal then it looks like we do not match.

Hi, thanks for replying.
Tested with FTDNA and found a significant amount of matches (autosomal) from Donegal, Quinn, McLaughlin, McGlynn, Given, Duffy, Lafferty, Boyle, and more, most about 4th or 5th generations+ so quite a distance.
Definately from my scottish maternal side from West & SW Scotland probably the Ulster plantations? No family tree to Ulster, rather hoping to a connection from Ulster to Scotland but I think that the time distance is too great so I will not be able to contribute to your project except for my autosomal DNA.

I tend to agree with you but as I recall I found information via the local LDS facility over 20 years ago when I first started family history research. Perhaps I should revisit the records in Edinburgh/Scotlands People.
Being OPR's surely they will be one line entries i.e. no certificate? Perhaps this is where I got the 'of' from.

All comes down to time & money!

Hi Peter, thank you for your thoughts on the problem.
I was unaware of the of the interchangability of Patrick & Peter so that opens up new avenues of research.
I am inclined to agree with your fair approach with limited information, so having no other information I shall adopt your suggestions with caution.
I ran your suggested Cowie connection through my relationship calculator and it resulted in a 6th cousin connection as opposed to a 5th cousin connection via DNA matching, so quite close!

Thanks
