I am pretty sure that the grandfather of Edmund Huther the photographer in Londonderry is Killean Huther and grandmother Sarah. Edward Frederick Huther his father was born in London and his son George married a sister of Edmund's wife Mary Clarke. The Clarke's and Huthers seem connected professionally or otherwise.

Marriage
 Name    George Huther
 Spouse's Name    Ellen Clarke
 Event Date     13 May 1849
 Event Place     St Mary-098,Dublin,Dublin,Ireland

 Spouse's Father's Name    Bernard Clarke

The following is from the Photographers of Great Britain and Ireland 1840-1890
www.cartedevisite.co.uk/photographers-category/biographies/g-to-l/edmund-joseph-huther/

Edmund Joseph HUTHER

Edmund Joseph Huther 1841/2 – 1877

Photographic Business

Edmund Huther first advertised his photographic studio in Londonderry, Northern Ireland in 1865 and remained in that city until his death in 1877 at the age of only 33.

His wife, Mary, took over the business and ran it until at least 1882 as well as opening a studio in Letterkenny, over the border in County Donegal in Eire.

Census

1851 – census destroyed by fire in 1922

1861 – census destroyed by order of the Irish government

1871 – census destroyed by order of the Irish government

1881 – Mary Huther (Edmund’s mother), photographer, age 57 Twentymans Lane, St Mary Within, Cumberland, England with her husband Edward Huther, taylor

1891 – Mary Huther (Edmund’s mother), no occupation, age 68, widowed, 3 Youngs Lane, Rickergate, Cumberland, England with Adelina Hodgson, 11yo, scholar.

1891 –  Mary Huther (Edmunds wife), age 48 at 11 Penrith Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool with oldest son James (aged 26) shown as a photographer and 3 other children

1901 – Mary Huther (Edmund’s wife), age 57, at 16 Brown Street, Glasgow with her sons James and Edmund and with her daughter Mary Mckeown who had 2 sons, Joseph Huther aged 8 and Edmund Mckeown aged 4.

Edmund Huther was born between January 15th 1841 and January 14th 1842 (according to his gravestone) in Dublin, Eire. His parents were named Edward Frederick Huther and Mary Huther but little else is known of his parents nor his early life as his birth certificate has not been located and census returns from Ireland from that period having been lost or destroyed many years ago.

Edmund opened a photographic studio in Foyle Street, Londonderry when he was about 21 years old and first advertised it in trade directories in 1865. His advert at that time, according to the excellent book ‘A Century in Focus’ by W A Maguire, stated :-
◾Open daily for the execution of Cartes-de-Visite, Glass pictures, & Views taken to order anywhere in the Province
◾Pictures of any description copied and enlarged to the life size by the Solar Camera
◾Photographs painted in Oil or Water Colour
◾Portraits taken at night, or in dark weather, by the Magnesium Light

A marriage record, which appears below, relates to an ‘Edmond’ Huther and states that he married Mary Clarke in Londonderry Roman Catholic Church on the 21st June 1866. It is thought that Mary was born about 1844 in Londonderry.

Edmund’s and Mary’s fathers are recorded as Huther and Clarke respectively but no fore names are given. The witnesses were Mr Douglass and Mary Jane Douglass.

Lanarkshire / Re: Where is Holms (Holmes) Farm, parish of Avondale?
« on: Wednesday 17 February 16 20:22 GMT (UK)  »
Forget Holms farm. To sound more positive here are your ancestors. According to his marriage certificate James Craig was the son of James Craig and Christina Miller. James senior was a ship wright and was born in Greenock Renfrewshire on 28 April 1815 to William Craig and Isabella MacIntosh.
James senior remarried Mary Buchanan in 1854 after the death of Christina Miller (betw 1851-1854)
Here are some census records which may interest you.
Greenock rather than Avondale is your ancestral home. All the best Robbie

James Craig who married Cecilia Craig is not the son of James Craig and Jean Fleming but is the son of James Craig a Shipwright and Christian Miller. Thus mcvicar you are not descended from the Craigs of Holms which is my family. As you must have the marriage certificate of 1873 you must have known that the  connection to the Craig of Holms was incorrect. As my information has been published in many websites for years (without my permission) is it  easier to download my family history rather than actually doing some research and finding your own family history which may be more interesting than mine?.

Ayrshire / Re: Muncie Family Muirkirk/ Auchinleck
« on: Wednesday 15 April 15 00:27 BST (UK)  »
So to make it clear, I believe that Haxehead was actaully in Muirkirk and not Douglas.  Hazelhead (or as you thought that Hazelhead was actaully Haxehead) in Douglas has no historical reference to it in Douglas Parish and that    only    Haxehead is referred to in the Muirkirk parish records and is not referred to as in Douglas parish. I am working on Haxehead (which could be a place called Hawkshead?) and is a place in Muirkirk parish and may be in the Register of Saines or other historical doument pertaining to Muirkirk parish.
