Down / Alexander Donning (Denning) - barony of Ards Co. Down
« on: Thursday 17 October 19 02:45 BST (UK)  »
I wondering if anyone can help  - re: Alexander Donning (born about 1764 - died 1819) who married Jane Bailie (born about 1763 died 1831) - who married about 1789.   Nothing is known about the couple, only what is written here.  They were believed to have been from Drumardin ,  Co. Down.     We are not sure if they were original from Co. Down, or born and married elsewhere in Ireland.   (they were Presbyterians)

They had two known children: Alexander (1795) and Elizabeth (1798) and possibly Samuel and Jane.

We have information on their two children  Alexander and Elizabeth   no need for information there    ( which saves a lot of  time looking, as I appreciated that time is valuable )  -  it is only their parents and possible other children the parents may have had - that I am finding hard to locate.     Maybe - no records go back that far, for Co. Down.

Thank you.

Pat.  NZ

Hi Carol
Will be contacting the older members of the family to see if they have a copy of the marriage cert, if not will order a copy

If they are her parents, you mentioned 'Lambeth', is this still in Nottingham area or elsewhere?

After 1948 - Ernest and Mary (Copeland) Johnson migrated to Australia with their 4 children.

Hi
The information was from ancestry website - however, it looks like a mistake, as her mother's maiden may have started with a 'R or a P' (that was the talk of family).   On the death cert, maiden name is unknown,   J,

Hi rosie99
We were always lead to believe that her name was 'Eliza'  as it
appeared on the sons death cert.   The Informant must not have known of
the mother's name.

Mary did marry - (not sure where) to Ernest Lewis Johnson around 1937/38.  He was from Derbyshire - so not sure if they married there, or in Nottingham.

George migrated to Australia around 1872 and married 1879 - (both parents were recorded as being deceased at the time of his coming to Australia).  George's occupation was a coal miner in the Hunter Valley, Australia, and died 1903.    It's believed that George's father Joseph was the son of a James Ward.      The names that keep appearing in the early families are Joseph, Charles, Albert, William, John, Edward. Gertrude, Mary

Hi
Alexander Dunning (m) Margaret  (last name unknown)
their son David was born about 1831
another son named Samuel 1843

It's believed that David migrated to Australia around 1853 (married in 1856 in Australia)
Samuel - married Sarah Campbell (uncertain if in Ireland or US) and 2 children Charles (b 1871) and Alice (b 1873) - Samuel arrived in Australia as a widower from the US in 1880.   Before arriving to Australia, samuel and his wife lived in the US (Stanford Connecticut) where she died.

Any help relating to the Dunnings of Co. Down would be appreciated.  J.
