Hertfordshire / Joseph Pearce / Elizabeth Morris
« on: Wednesday 11 January 17 23:43 GMT (UK)  »
The above are believed to have been married 12/10/1799, St Peters, St Albans and had at least 3 children, Joseph (1784), Thomas (1794) and Elizabeth (1781), All at St Albans.
Help with parents ( of the parents) and any further info on Thomas (1794) and Elizabeth (1781) would be appreciated.
Cheers and a Happy New Year to all.
Maxn.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Mary Ann Hancock
« on: Friday 16 September 16 00:25 BST (UK)  »
The name of Mary's mother was taken from the Marriage Certificate. The name is most unusual I believe and no matter what searches I have made I have come up empty. Her father was a Whitesmith. NFK.
I must say that what I have found in my family search has been absolutely amazing but how easier it would have been if some of the forebears had left a written legacy of their past. Not so in my case although I still have been able to go back 3/400 years. Incredible stuff.
Thanks again for your time. Max

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Mary Ann Hancock
« on: Thursday 15 September 16 09:15 BST (UK)  »
I have noted from Free BMD UK that the above  was born in the March Qtr 1842, Bristol. I have sought information on her previously without result.
It is believed that she may be my G Grandmother born to a John Hancock/Handcock and a Holdstone Smith and arrived in Australia on her own in 1863.
Is it possible to confirm her origins?

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / James Brown aka Hobbs
« on: Sunday 17 July 16 02:20 BST (UK)  »
James is believed to have been born abt 1791 either Monkton Farleigh or Lacock, this information being taken from his trial at the Wiltshire Assizes 1813 where he was initially sentenced to hang but subsequently remitted to 7 years transportation.
It is thought that the parties who James was found guilty of robbing where the well known "Cottle" family.
Information prior to his "departure" to Tasmania (VDL) have only been obtained from the Court records which do not disclose information on family etc.,
Any assistance which may provide this info would be greatly appreciated. Maxn

Wiltshire / James Brown aka Hobbs

This post has also been placed in the Somerset section.
James Brown aka Hobbs is believed to have been born in Bath between 1780 and 1788. (but see below for alternatives).  Information obtained reveals his death at age 94, 1874, Richmond, Tasmania.
Trial  date 1813 states his age as 25 making birth date 1788, whilst a conviction in Tasmania 1850 mentions his age at 68, making birthdate 1782.
James was indicted in 1813, sentenced to hang for offences against Jeremiah Cottle, William Cottle, and Jacob Marshall of Monkton Farleigh and a John French.
Notes reveal that James was also late of Monkton Farleigh and Lacock, Wiltshire.
Although sentenced to pay the ultimate price, his sentence was later repealed and he was transported to New south Wales, later sent on to VDL, (Tasmania).
I appreciate the difficulty of the task but any assistance in determining parents, siblings etc., would be greatly appreciated.
 Regards, Maxn

Thanks Warncoort. Name of Hobbs mentioned in his indictment (1813), Native place mentioned in prison records and a charge sheet, Richmond, Tasmania.
I have a fairly full history of James' life after transportation but nothing prior, apart from trial records.
Numerous researchers have similar records but nothing re parentage etc.,
