Hi,  Ewart Library catalogue is online
 http://archives.dumgal.gov.uk/DServe/dserve.exe?dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=Search.tcl

Just had a quick look and only saw Kirkcolm records, but you can search under the parish.

Don't know of any online resources for this. The Education act of 1872 meant that all children under 14 had to attend a school. Most likely it would be the parish school of the parish he lived in.  The Ewart Library in Dumfries and the Library in Stranraer will be he first places to look, but not all of these records survive.

Hi, It certainly looks like St Michael/s. The link to the images is not working. I would suggest that you report that to Ancestry. Regarding the book, Memorials of St Michaels. This was written about 1880 and refers to the old graveyard at St Michael's church. Section D, could be the newer section behind the church or it could be in the Craigs Road cemetery. I think both have a section D.

If you look at the Ancestry entry and then start going back, page by page, you will come to the beginning of the cemetery with a title page.

Hi the picture shown on the earlier post is Kirkmaiden Churchyard, not Stoneykirk.

Hi Forfarian, OK, I agree with your post. Maybe I was a bit hard on our American cousins.

I was at a meeting with an official of the Lyon office. One exchange went like this. In USA, if (for example) the Clan Armstong did not attend a Highland Games, the question might be asked "where are Clan Armstrong?". In Scotland, if Clan Armstrong were to attend games at Inverness, the question would be "Why are Clan Armstong here?"  As I said earlier, bagpipes, kilts and clans were outlawed in 1746, only to be re-invented by their ancestors in USA.
