Kent / Re: CATHOLIC PARISH RECORDS, DEPTFORD

I have tried to contact this church by phone and email for quite a time now with no success at all. Let me know if you have more success! I also tried the Catholic National Library, who confirmed that any surviving records would be at the church. If you are close best get down there with a donation!

or the above, but as you can see it's not totally straightforward. A Guinea itself was worth £1 and 1 shilling or £1.05 in decimals. I would say that he wasn't doing too badly  ;)

Hi Bearkat, am not sure that there were any Catholic churches or chapels in or around Chatham until the 1860's, but at least at some stage I suspect that you are correct with a surname like that.
They might also have been connected to the navy or the Royal Dockyard so have dropped them a mail.
No great joy from the National Archives either, an elusive bunch, aside from some misspelled census reports from 1841 and 1851 there is not a lot of records for them at all. Back to the drawing board for me  :-[

Thank you Garstonite - yes all the way, the Whitear tree is full of Henry's and Elizabeth's! Sounds highly feasible but not easily proven!

Thanks for that rosie99. Was very excited, but it seems that a lot of the scanned jpegs can't be opened. eg Baptisms 1820-22, I can open the front sheet but none of the following pages. Hopefully a temporary problem. It appears that only Chatham St Mary has the relevant dates, but fingers crossed

England / Samuel Whitear - birth information
« on: Friday 14 December 12 15:07 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for info re: the above. Married Mary Helton 10 Oct 1803 at St Mary's Lambeth. Had at at least 2 children baptised at St George the Martyr, Southwark (Samuel 1805, Henry 1806). Possible death Jul 1837 St Georges, Surrey. Possible occupation was twine spinner as that is what a number of the following children did. Also connection with Hampshire Whitears. Would be great to pin him down! Thanks in advance

Hi there,

Looking for birth details for Elizabeth Brosnahan (Brosnan maybe) b. Chatham 1823, father called William according to marriage certificate. Also likely to have a sister called Mary, b. Chatham 1811. Thanks in advance

Hi Patty,

Thank-you for that, there is a wealth of Cabot's in Jersey and Trinity in particular, but had not been able to find a 'Joseph' - thats because I was looking for the wrong thing! Had a glance through the excellent Jerripedia, just a case of finding the link between Josue here and 'my' Joseph, not easy of course, but does look very promising
