Dorset Lookup Requests / Re: Guillaume Pegmon Sherborne, Dorset
« on: Monday 25 November 13 22:54 GMT (UK)  »
Yes, now that you point it out I can see the uncrossed "l" and the "s" on the end instead of an "r".  Thank you for that!

I saw on this page a reference after several deaths the word peregrine.

Are these people casualties of the First English Civil War?

Also, does the word peregrine on this page mean foreign born?

Curtis

I need some help reading this Sherborne, Dorset entry.  Here it the url:

http://tinyurl.com/nvzvspo

Is it an entry for the death 4 April 1645 of Guillaume Pegmon miter?  Is miter a title for Bishop?

Thanks,
Curtis

Somerset Lookup Requests / Pigman surname in Somerset
« on: Thursday 21 November 13 23:30 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for my ancestor John Pigman (sometimes spelled Pigmon, Piggeman, Pigeman, etc).  He purchased a plantation in Maryland in 1695 and first shows up:

Charles Co., Md. Circuit Court, Liber L, p. 19. 1684 12 Nov Age: 55 Charles Co., Md. Nov. 12, 1684 - Ordered that John Pigman and James Lyle servants to Mr. Edward Pye be free and have their corn and clothes from said Pye. (Charles Co., Md. Circuit Court, Liber L, p. 19.)

One of the authors of "John Pigman and His Descendants" Polly Kelleher also mentions a Joseph Pigman sometime called Prigman.

There was a Joseph Pigman (also called Prigman), who lived in Somerset about this time. He was a Captain in a regiment of foot raised by Col. Francis of Dunster Castle in 1688.
"English Army Lists and Commision Registers. Vol II, III., Charles Dalton, ed 1960, pub Francis Edwards, Ltd, London.

"On October 2, 1706 John deeded to Anthony Long, ... 37 acres of Taunton..." The author traced this back to Taunton, Somerset, England, 30 miles S.W. of Bristol, England. However, in his Will 10/27/1712, Prince Georges Co., MD., John Pigman gives: "... To dau., Mary Mason and hrs., 37 A., where Anthony Long lives."

Are any of these names (John Pigman and James Lyle servants to Mr. Edward Pye) in the Somerset records?

Thank you,
Curtis

Hello all,

Can someone help me find the birth record of John Pigman who married Sarah Rhodes 12 Oct. 1733 in Norwich.  He was most likely born in Hunstanton.  They are possibly my 5th great grandparents.  :-\

Norfolk / Re: Symonds Norfolk research question
« on: Sunday 23 December 12 22:47 GMT (UK)  »
Yesterday while looking for surname Pigman in the Archdeconry of Norwich I found a Symonds.

Can't tell you where it was exactly except somewhere in the files of Norwich 1733-1744 on familysearch.org.

I am looking for variations of American and English version: Pigman / Dutch version: Pigmans French version: Pigmon/Pimond/Pimont/Pymond/Pymon/Piemons and others.

The name Symonds in script looks incredibly like Pymonds and I have kind of trained my eye for that particular form in the thousands of files I have looked at in French as well as English records.

The Pigman surname is indexed in Old Hunstanton and Norwich but
I haven't found the original file of Norwich, Norfolk - John Pigman m. Sarah Rhodes 16 Oct. 1733 yet.

Has anyone seen Pigman while looking at the Norwich files?

Happy Holiday! 8)

Thanks Little Nell,

I looked through the file you gave me a link for but I haven't found it yet.

Perhaps I missed it trying to hurry so I could get all the holiday stuff done. ::)   I'll go back through it in a couple of days!

The name Guillhume Pigman shows up in Old Hunstanton and I have also seen a record on George Pigman and Francis Pigman.  The Guilhume(William) is in the non-conformist records and it says Huguenots as well as others are included in this group.  These are probably my ancestors as our name in France was Pigmon/Pimond!  Just trying to put possible family group sheets together.

Any suggestions?

Curtis Hays Pigman(Pigmon/Pimond)
