London and Middlesex / Re: Danesdale road, Sth Hackney

My great great great grandfather William Dickens and his family lived at no. 24 according to the 1871 census when it was still Dagmar road. I can see the house that stands there today on google street view. Does anyone know if this would be the same building as the one they lived in in 1871. Also would anyone have any information on the Dickens family that did live there.
 Thanks Roger

Hi Jane,
Charles Chandler is also my G-G-G-G grandfather. You have come to the right  place in your search, I'm only new to Rootschat myself and have nothing but praise about the help i've received from people like Dawn. The last month or so I've been devoted to finding out who Charles & "Elizabeth" were and where they came from. I've research and eliminated many possibles and hopefully soon will be able to post my conclusions here for people to dissect. I like many still have the crowd favourite Elizabeth Haberfield in my family tree but she is not his wife. Elizabeth Haberfield married a William Chandler and there children were William Henry 19-4-1829 and Clara 4-7-1830. William's father was also William, not James as we know Charles's was from his 3rd marriage. I believe the similarity of William's christening 10-10-1804 and the birth date on Charles head stone of 13-10-1804 (which incidently appears to be incorrect) is the reason many have jumped to this conclusion.
 Cheers Roger

Hi Annette, where did you find Elizabeth b.28/6/1826, bp.30/7/1826. I have tracked the other children named but this one eludes me. Was she also born in East Acton to Charles & Ann.
 Thanks Roger

Thanks Annette, your theory does appear to make more sense than all those trees I originally started following when I began my search. I also soon realised that many trees were contradictory and the facts presented didn't add up. I was focused on the Elizabeth name due to the Bound for South Australia website and that is also the name recorded in the John Pirie passenger list. Dawn also recently pointed out that an Ann was recorded as the mother of his children. Possible that Elizabeth might have been the name she was known by and Ann was her real name.
I had also started wondering if the family had got the date on his headstone wrong as I had hit a dead end finding a Charles born or baptised on that date.
I will definitely be changing course and researching along these lines as they seem more promising.

Thanks Annette, Dawn & Trish for your help, much appreciated
 Cheers Roger

Sorry Dawn, they gave me no other info on Chandlers except to confirm what you discovered earlier. I've just posted a National Archives lookup request so hopefully someone will be able to shed more light on them. I will also try LDS & Bristol family history centres soon. Thanks for your help.

Library and FHS Lookups / National Archives look up request for Charles Chandler
« on: Wednesday 30 January 13 08:02 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone please do a National archives lookup for the birth/christening and marriage of Charles Chandler. His headstone in South Australia says he was born Oct 13th 1804. He emigrated to South Australia aboard the John Pirie in 1836. The Bound for South Australia website says he was living in East Acton at this time but previous searches suggest he was not born or married there. His wifes name was Elizabeth (possibly Holmes or Haberfield) who unfortunately died at sea on the journey. They had four children Elizabeth 1826?, William 1831?, Sarah 1833?, Harriet 1835?. Any information on this family on this family would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dawn,
I have received a reply from Ealing Local History who have been very helpful but unfortunately they were only able to verify the information you gave me earlier. They were unable to find any reference of a marriage with Charles Chandler so the search continues!

Hi Dawn, just updated my profile. I live in Adelaide, South Australia. I will try emailing Ealing again tomorrow, if I can't get through I'll try your alternative email if that's ok. I will be holidaying in London for 5 days in July so depending on time and where the rest of my family drag me I will try and get there if they do have anything of interest.
Thanks for all your help
Roger
