Durham Completed Look up Requests / Re: Nicholas Byers 1851 lookup * Complete *

Hello Carol, just been browsing through Roots and saw your post, although quite old.  I'm sure you've found what you were looking for but just in case I have copied the following from my notes:
Ann baptised 22 December 1820 Aycliffe St Andrew parents Nicholas and Elizabeth, fathers occupation Farmer, abode Ketton.  Ann marries John Edward Johnson as follows:

St Helens, Auckland 30 June 1846 Ann Byers to John Edward Johnson, possibly baptised 23 July 1820 at St Martin in the Field.  John full age, abode Kensington in the County of Middlesex father William Johnson, butcher to Ann full age, abode Hummerbeck.  Father Nicholas Byers, farmer.  Both could write.  Witnesses Nicholas Byers and ????  Ann dies 7 September 1847 as follows:

Sacred to the memory of Nicholas Byers son of Nicholas Byers late of Little Ketton who died at Hummerbeck 1 January 1847 aged 25 years.  Also Ann Johnson his sister who died at No 12 New Brompton, Middlesex 7 September 1847 aged 27 years and whose remains are interred in the west of London and Westminster cemetery.

On 1841 she is possibly at Hurworth. On 1841 census for Hurworth Village, Neasham, Darlington with Thomas aged 65 born 1776 and John Byers born 1801 aged 40, Nicholas Byers born 1823 aged 18.  Also Jane Plews born 1824 aged 17.

Nicholas baptised 9 April 1822 Aycliffe St Andrew parents Nicholas and Elizabeth, fathers occupation Farmer, abode Ketton.  Nicholas does not marry.  On 1841 he is possibly at Hurworth.    He dies 1 January 1847 at Hummerbeck see above:

Hummerbeck is West Auckland, and would be St Helens parish.

I have quite a bit of info on the Byers family.

Best regards
M

Hello Shaun, thank you for your reply.  Where did you get the info about the dysentry (which I think was the most common cause of death) and the burial.  Yes, my info about the hospital was from the newspaper.

Hello, Nicholas Hodgson was born 1815 in Aycliffe, Co Durham.  He died in Calcutta General Hospital on 21 April 1858 and buried 22 April 1858.  I don't know why he was there or when he went there but I believe it may have been after 1851.  On Familysearch it says seaman on ship Arethusa.  He was previously a coachman in England.  Does anyone know if medical records for the hospital exist?
Thank you.

Durham / Ralph Robsons Farmhouse, Darlington
« on: Wednesday 06 July 16 21:28 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I have a marriage bond which says Christopher Spencer of Mr Ralph Robsons farm house, Darlington to Elizabeth Byers  dated 27 Jan 1768.  Marriage took place 29 Jan 1768.  I am trying to find out who Ralph Robson was and I assume Christopher Spencer or Spence was maybe a farm labour.  Any help appreciated.  Also I cannot find a death for Christopher Spencer or Spence.  Thanks. :)

Hello Mark
Welcome to Roots. I haven't checked into Roots for a very long time.  John Race was my great great grandmother's brother (Mary Race).  I was going to attach some notes but I can't remember how to do it or even if you can, and I can't find anywhere on the site for attaching documents.  Perhaps anyone reading this can refresh my memory.  Maybe you could send me a PM?  I'll see if anyone replies and then contact you again.   Kind regards, Marian
