I'm still plugging away at this!

Ancestry added the Annex in the past week!  Yesterday i finally got a pictrue of Mr Craddock/Kite.  I've also proved a DNA link to a Kite family from the Maidstone area and built partially out a tree.

I still can't place his mother, or the missing father, but we're definately moving forward!

Another year and another update.  With the free weekend at findmypast i was stumbled upon a Parish baptism record from Dec 1896.  It shows birth as 7 Nov 1895, Rose Sarah Kite as his mother.  Father is left blank, and above Fredericks name is written " (Illegitimate) " .

An address of 15 John Street is given, and having checked the 1901 census, a Pay family is living there, no sign of Rose.

The search continues

Yeah i didn't expect to find her, but was hoping to understood who she may have been with at the time of the birth.  Family, friends, or just a rented room etc.  I have the cencus from 1891 and 1901, just wanted to fill the gaps :D

Hi,

Could someone please give me the residents for 49 Brewer Street, Maidstone for the years 1894, 1895 and 1896

I believe a Rose Sarah Kite to have been present at some point as i have a birth certificate stating the address in 1895

Thanks

Ian

Another step forward the past week or so...

My 1C1R, has Fred's war medals, from the 1st and 2nd world wars.  The service numbers on them, match the army enlistment record I have for the 2nd WW, but more importantly to the Frederick Henry Craddock Kite from the Navy in WW1 (and before)

This does lend further evidence that Frederick Henry Craddock is Frederick Henry Craddock Kite, and that he is likely to be the man mentioned in the court records.

My father and 1C1R will make a trip to Kew early next year to pull hopefully the Police Gazette record which says there is a Photograph of the man.

Yes believed to be the man in question.  I have the records, and recently got the BC from GRO.  Trying to confirm parents names.

Kent Lookup Requests / Maidstone Parish Registers - CRADDICK/CRADDOCK/KITE
« on: Thursday 30 November 17 02:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking for the baptism/christening for a Frederick Henry Craddock born 7th November 1895, Brewer St, Maidstone.

I think it's either the Holy Trinity or All Saints Parish?

The Birth certificate shows the name spelt Frederick Henry Craddick, mothers name Rose Sarah Kite, no father listed.  Registered 17th Dec 1895.  Sarah was marked illiterate.

Thanks in advance

Ian

Sorry to dig up an old post, but this still has me going...

I found the enlistment details of Fred Craddock, which shows the correct units of the two photo's i have of him in uniform.  His borthdate is listed as 7 Nov 1895, which matches both this birth certificate and a Gallywall Rd School entry for him.  The Kite family was living in the gallywall rd area at the time, and would make sense to be lodging with his aunt if this was the case.

His name is listed as Frederick Henry Craddick, no mention of Kite.

I'm now DNA tested at both Ancestry and FTDNA and trying to build out the tree of the man mentioned below.

I received today his Birth Certificate from the GRO (Yay for $6 pdf's).  His mother is listed as Sarah Rose Kite, and when looking through the records does make him nephew to the Wrattens, and places him with the Stearns, but perhaps Rose (aka Sarah) is his mother?

No father is listed at all on the Birth Certificate, but his mother is listed as a domestic servant, so i'm trying to locate who was livign at the address given on the certificate at the time.

The papaerwork all seems to add up and point at my Great Grandfather and this man being the same person, but I've had no Kite or Craddock hits via my DNA tests, which is worrying, but we'll see i guess.  Perhaps the father was neither Kite of Craddock.  On we keep searching
