Cheers.

Stirlingshire / Pitchwork - Where was it in Bothkennar in 1869?

I have an 1869 birth record for a James Buchanan HADDOW (Fa = John; Mo = Margaret) and the record says they were living at Pitchwork, Bothkennar. The record is a fairly good one, I think I am reading the place name correctly.
Does anyone know where this place might be?

Thank you

Perfect! Many thanks. The maps I checked were not early enough. I'll do more checking now to see if that name still exists, or if it has been changed since 1832.
It fits perfectly with the other information I have about this person. I'm very grateful to you, and to the others who so quickly responded to my request for help.
Cheers

Thanks for your insight.
It appears to me that the name may have changed in recent times and what was Shandbody may now be Hartshaw Farm.

Hi Isobel, this is the best lead I have had. Its conceivable that the name Shandsbody was dropped and the farm/place was renamed Hartshaw Farm. I've found the name Shandsbody elsewhere, but there is never a location given. Uggh.
Thank you for your help. Noel

Clackmannanshire / Shandbody in Clackmannanshire

Can someone help me find the location of Shandbody? I suspect it was the name of a very small rural area, even the name of a farm, but I can't find it on an of the old maps. Had a distant relative, George Drysdale, living there in 1841. Thanks.

Ojistah has disappeared because sometime in the early 1900s she went to Canada with her parents. She married a Hugh Taylor who had emigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1908. The couple married in Hamilton, Ontario in November 1920. They were married on the 23rd. The record can be found on Ancestry's website of Canadian marriages. Hope this helps.

Thanks GR2. I am almost at the point where I think the birth was not registered in Australia. The couple did not register the birth when they got back to Scotland, at least my searches have been unsuccesful. They DID register the birth of their 2nd child, a son, who was born in NSW while they were there.

John Morrison belonged to the 73rd Regiment of Foot which went to Australia in Dec 1809 from England on the HMS Dromedary. His wife Elisabeth was with him.
Either on the trip or soon after they arrived, she gave birth to a daughter, Marion. Marion is not recorded as having been born in Sydney, though her brother William born two years later was so recorded. That suggests the birth was actually on the voyage. Where would I find a record of such a birth? Thanks
