Cavan / Re: John Haughton - 'Gentleman farmer of Aghavadrin, Killeshandra'

hullo SherrardMLS2 thanks for posting that information it helped add to my family history. I looked up the wreck of the Cataraqui in 1845 the worst civil maritime disaster in Australian maritime history, without it I would have had more relatives in Australia. After such a tragedy its a bit surprising that other family such as Charles chose to chance their luck sailing to Australia.
I would appreciate any additional information that you could pass along to me I have been involved in family research now for about 15 years & still get great enjoyment from it.
All the best,
peter

Hullo Mew53 did your father/grandfather mention Davis from Killeshandra or Armstrongs, Dobsons Naylor or Moxhams? These are all family of mine from the area most of my relatives were probably Presbyterian although this is only probable. When the families came to Australia they tended to associate particularly with people from their home regions.

Hullo I have just come across your old post from 2009 re John Haughton. Charles Edward Haughton/Houghton c 1830 emigrated to Australia c1850, his sister Harriett 18 yo followed in 1855 their father was George Haughton Newtowngore Killeshandra. Charles married my ggggreat aunt Sarah Davis from Cavan who emigrated to Australia with father Hugh Davis & mother Sarah in 1851
It seems reasonable to assume that they are related to your Charles Haughton given the localities. let me know if you think they are a match
best wishes

Hullo Carol great to get your post & have done work on Job's history. What is your connection to Leslie & Jessie? I am related through Leslie's later relationship with Olive.
I look forward to hearing from you

Cavan / Re: BLEAKLEY HUGGINS Killashandra

Hullo my name is Peter (upton) Davis & I have looked at the George Bleakley household, house 13 Portlingfield Killashandra in the 1841 census & think that the Elizabeth Davis 10 yo grand daughter from Derrylane is probably my relative (daughter of Henry Davis). i am unaware though who was her grandmother possibly Elizabeth Bleakley.
Anyone have any ideas?

hullo marilyn the names of your davis ancestors are very consistent with my family line so there appears to be some relationship. My earliest identified davis was robert probably born around the mid 1770s who married agnes armstrong born around 1765. their children were Margaret born 1793, Hugh 1795 (my ancestor), Thomas 1797 & Eliza 1804.
In the 1796 Irish flaxgrowers list Joseph, Robert & Henry Davis are listed for Killashandra, so Joseph was also a davis name & the family seemed to stay close together. There is not a lot of information prior to the 1841 census so it is difficult to identify particular people.
My best guess is that your hugh davis may have been a brother, cousin or nephe of my robert davis but we lack critical connecting information.
Good luck let me know if you have any more luck

Hi jenni, my hypothesis on our family puzzle is this
thomas davis married mary magee & she is the (aunt) mary davis named in the will, one of their sons was  robert (cousin) & the other cousin was eliza who is the unnamed female infant in the census.
With regard to jane davis the mother in law one possibility is that if the census taker may have assumed that jane was a davis when she may in fact may have been a magee, unlikely but a possibility.
Until we corresponded I was unaware of the possibility of there  being a davis/magee connection
