Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Re: Rolfe Marriage
« on: Tuesday 07 July 20 12:22 BST (UK)  »
Hello again

With dna testing and my husbands Sarah was not Sarah Ogram. She married William Mason and with her family emigrated to Australia.  The dna test proves this by showing the siblings related to Sarah and also the dna evidence showing William Rolfe and Mary Preston are the parents of Sarah Rolfe born 1806. Dna does not lie and there you have it proof! Of the discussion. Sarah is the so many times great grandmother of Bryan. Maybe you need to take an ancestry dna test to prove your theory?

Hi all

Yes Charles Sutton and Sarah Hogben did have a son Charles in 1845 before they came to Australia. My husband is the living proof of this DNA proven.  This is a long story so we didn't know anything about this family because Charles Sutton Jnr Changed his Identity to Scrutton. Charles Sutton Junior in 1884 Married an Elizabeth /Eliza Ann Castleton at West Maitland.  They had 4 Children Flora /Florence, John, Charles and Ethel 1889 Gosford my husband Bryan's Grandmother.  The marriage certificate states he was from Sussex but he's still Charles Sutton with different parents lol.  His death had Ipswich as his place of birth meaning Suffolk he's down as John Joseph Scrutton, and also Joseph Scrutton etc trying to hide who he was for some reason?  How I found out is Bryan had a DNA match to a Chandler relative And I had no idea who she was.  So further digging found out Elizabeth Chandler married a Richard Sutton who happened to be Bryans 2 times great grandparents lol.  If you are on ancestry Bryan is on there and also my heritage and Gedmatch Also

Hi all.

I don't know if you have this sorted?  I had my husband Bryan take a DNA test because he desends from Sarah Rolf who married William Mason.  Her parents are William Rolf and Mary Preston DNA confirms this. So it's not from the second marriage at all. Just wanted to add my 50c and to let you know sometimes DNA proves a point.

Midlothian / Re: Douglas and Rutherford families
« on: Friday 05 June 15 03:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi Vicki Aberg

I know all about the Australian part of the family.
I am concentrating on the Scottish part of the family.
Henry I found born in England not Scotland in 1794 even though on the 1841 census has Henry being Born 1800.

When Henry Married Isabella Rutherford he was living at 34 Fountainbrigde in Edinburgh.
A Clement Porter all the way back I was told lived at 34 Fountainbrigde Edinburgh all the way back in 1733 a wine merchant.
In his marriage to Jane Ratcliffe in 1733 Clement was a servant and I wonder how he became a wine merchant?
Any how still trying to link our Henry to them I actually think our Henry's parents or grandparents may be Thomas Porter and Jean Charles.
I once was intouch with you ages ago about the Porter side.
Also found more on the Meehan's they were not from Inver parish I have found.
I sent off for the death of Patrick Meehan in 1890 the son of John and Bridget.
Once I read the death this is not our Patrick father of Mary Jane, this Patrick was only 45 years old at death whereas our Patrick would have been 100.
On my Mary Jane's certificate has Londonderry on her death and Marriage to second one.
So I have found our Patrick and his father dying in the same year.
Later on I will apply this year, out Meehan's were the ones at Drayton Downs yep queensland.
The names on her first marriage match with this family and I think the Inver one may have mistakes.
As does the Londonderry one does not list Rosa Gallagher as her mum but a Jane?
I'm thinking our Mary Jane was from a later marriage between A Patrick senior his wife was Mary
B Patrick junior
C The 25 year old son Patrick Mehan of B.
Mary Jane was 7 years old when they arrived in 1842 so any of these Patrick'scould be her father plus the names Mary Jane and Clement named their children match her siblings from Ireland.
Still haven't finished yet unraveling the mess our family made.

Hi fiddlerslass

Yep that's the one I was looking for.
I wonder why I couldn't find the marriage even with the phonetic box ticked?
At least I know they married now to see when we died between 1930 to 1936 because Elizabeth married Jeremiah Santry in 1936.

Thank you for finding the marriage fiddlerslass.
Now I just need to choose which certificates to purchase later on and update this post?

Hi Selden and lizdb

I'll update you all when I have those certificate's.
My dad has told me the mother was a scatter brain having met her so who knows what she was thinking.
So I'll order these in a few months with the birth of Henry and marriage of Elizabeth and Jeremiah and maybe the Thomas A Berkeley just to see what was going on.

Hi SelDen

That is very interesting because on FreeBDM Thomas and Theresa were Regis in 1940?

Maybe Elizabeth and Jeremiah did register them again?

When I was younger my Aunt who married the younger Henry J Berkeley said his mother was a Day or Dugan/Duggan because my mum was a Dugan and her sister married a Day but his mum was not a Day but a Richardson?

I will ask my dad because he may give me a clue maybe his grandmother was a Day etc?

Will purchase the certificate's at a later date online which is the only way from Australia!
Or as my dad says the Local reg office or county council as he is from the UK but left.
Thank you will do another search on a hunch I feel see if it pulls up anything.

Hi SelDen and lizdb

Yes I've been on freebdm and the Thomas A Santry born 1934 Wisbech is also down as Thomas A Berkeley via the Berkeley surname in 1934 under Richardson too.

The other santry Children were
Terence Santry born 1938 wisbech
Theresa Mary Santry born 1940 wisbech
And another Thomas A Santry Theresa's twin bother born 1940.

One brother was known as Andrew the other as Thomas but Andrew is the middle name of three children.
I do get the feeling Elizabeth never married the Berkeley partner because she did not know if her son born 1934 was a Santry or Berkeley?

This is my Aunts husbands family so I'll ask my dad about them.
What a tangled mess this is turning out and yes the next step is most likely my uncles birth and the Santry marriage I wonder what the birth certificate will say?

Thank you gives me something to think about

Hi Northumberland list

I am having trouble researching Elizabeth Richardson born 24.9.1905 Northumberland and she died 1991 Wisbech.

Her first supposed marriage was to Henry Joseph or Joseph Henry Berkeley  in the 1920's I have searched but no marriage I can find.

Elisabeth Richardson and Henry J Berkeley had the following children

Roy A Berkeley 1928 Newcastle upon Tyne

Henry J Berkeley born 1930 Newcastle upon Tyne

Around the 1930's the family travelled to Cambridgeshire and there Elizabeth Richardson had another child a boy

Thomas A Berkeley in 1934 Wisbech but this child is also down as Thomas A Santry born 1934?

So I assume Henry J Berkeley must have died between 1930 to 1936 because in 1936 Elizabeth Richardson married Jeremiah Santry in Wisbech.

Jeremiah was born 1901/02 somewhere and died 1963 Wisbech

So if any one can find Elizabeth Richardson on the 1911 census or a birth I did come across a Elizabeth Ellen Richardson born Sept 1905 Newcastle upon tyne but she never used the middle name if that is her?

Any help with her first marriage or death of Henry J Berkeley or Joseph Henry Berkeley would be most appreciated.
