Canada Lookup Request / Re: Robert Hewitt and family

I think so Polarbear. I think he died in Manchester in 1959 but I have no other details about him. It seems the whole family bar Lily went to try their luck in Canada.

Sorry for not replying sooner as I was at the Munster match.
Thank you all so much for the amazing replies that I have read.
Robert and Alice have children named George, Lily, Alice, Gertrude, Robert, and Harold in my tree all born in the Gorton and Openshaw area. I would be a great grandchild of George that married Matilda Bullock but to get all this information on his siblings and parents is unbelievable!
I wonder what took Robert and the family to Cleethorpes when they left Canada rather than going back to the Manchester area!

Hi,

I have just read the messages from last night and I am astounded by these amazing contributions.
I have been looking for Gertrude for so long as she is Robert and Alices daughter. I know my great grandfather George was in Canada in the 1920s working whilst supporting his wife and children back in Oldham until dying in 1931.
In response to Nora Ethel, I sifted through births and 1911 census and deduced that more than likely Nora was more than likely adopted.
It seems the family went back to England then. It looks like I will have to concentrate on the Cleethorpes area for now.

To polarbear, dbree, and manawakian, I am utterly grateful for the tremendous work you have put in to this.

Thank you,

David.

I also found Harolds military records yesterday for WW1. Unfortunately I cannot find a death for Robert or Alice anywhere.

I cannot find them in 1921 but I found the marriage details for Harold in 1929 in St. John, New Brunswick.
They moved to Canada in 1915 and Robert is listed in the Henderson directories up to 1920 at the address in the census for 1916.

Hi Daisy,

They are in 149 Burrows Lane in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Harold is listed as a soldier.

Regards,
David.

Canada Lookup Request / Robert Hewitt and family

Hi, I seem to have hit a brick wall regards my 2x great grandfather. His name is Robert Hewitt born about 1856 in Torksey, Lincolnshire. I have been able to follow his life through all the census' to 1911 and found that he moved to Canada with his wife Alice and 2 of his youngest children. These being Harold and Norah. I have seen the transcripts of both the 1916 and 1920 Canadian census that show them in Winnipeg.
After 1920 I have lost track of Robert, Alice, and Norah but I traced Harold marrying a Laura L. Jones in St. John, New Brunswick on 25 July 1929.
I am also of the belief that Norah was possibly adopted as she is listed as Norah Ethel Forman as a visitor in the 1911 census.
If anyone can help in what happened regards any of these family members or where they moved to, I would be most grateful.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Phillips family- Salford
« on: Sunday 20 December 15 13:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am hoping that someone may be able to shed some light on my great grandmother Caroline Phillips born in Salford c.1879. She married Fred Brindle my great grandfather and then moved to Chadderton to raise their family.
May someone help in trying to establish her parents please and whether she had any more siblings.
Any help would be much appreciated.
