Hiya

How much does it cost to apply for a birth certificate.

I was given the address of where to get this from with an amount of £7,  well i posted this about 10 days ago, only to receive it back friday,  saying the amount is not enough.

Hiya

Im from Kent.

So far have found out that my grandad (dads side) was born in Devonport,  and in brother was born in Farnham.

My nans dad (dads side again) was born in Kent,  as ive found him on the 1901 census.

Family History Beginners Board / thanks for advice, re genesconnected
« on: Wednesday 28 April 04 07:31 BST (UK)  »
Hiya

Wanted to say thank you for all your advice/tip/opinions re my message about the genesconnected site,  i have for now decided not to become a member.

I have to say ive found rootschat really helpful,  im always reading the messages and seeing if any info maybe of use to me, im addicted..lol.

Ive only been using the site for about a couple of weeks and only for about the same to research my family history  (had looked into it few years back, but had no computer etc).  I think i probably get a little impatient with my search,  no one in my family seems to know much about the family,  hence ive not got very far (literally,  in fact embarrasingly not very far),  im at present waiting for birth certificate for my grandad (can anyone tell me how long i will be waiting?).   So i think i may be getting a little impatient as i feel i cant really to much more.  Was maybe hoping genesconnected may of been able to give me a link, i think.

I also havent a clue about the census business at all,  and feel totally thick to admit this.   I also been given another website 1837online.com, that i was told is very useful,  had a look and im lost, what do i use this for,  have read the notes on the site,  but im lost,  maybe again im impatient and am trying to take too much in at the same time.

Well sorry for rambling,  any more help/advice is really appreciated.

Josie

Hiya

I was wondering if anyone had found the site genesconnected of any use to them.   Ive looked at it now about 5 times and am wondering if its worth signing up for, i know its only cheap for the year,  but wondering if that money is worth going towards something else to help me in my research.

Many thanks

Hiya

Sorry seems like im always asking for help.

While im awaiting my grandads birth certificate,  i decided to look at my family on my mothers side,  my great grandmother has always had a bit of a mystery surrounding her, or that is what ive been lead to believe by family members.

Her name was Isabel Mcbean Frazer (by marriage),  and maiden name Hynds (which unfortunately at present no one knows if that spelling is correct).  She was a true spanish gypsy.

Now will i have trouble finding her?

Obviously i wil look for into the correct spelling of her maiden name.

Many thanks

Family History Beginners Board / help/advice needed

Hiya

I feel a bit silly asking this,  but i am really new to researching my family history, have literally just started.

Ive been given a name that 'could' be my great grandfather,  and was wondering how i go about checking it out myself.

Sorry if the answer to this is obvious,  like i say still trying to work out the census stuff etc.

Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / army records
« on: Tuesday 20 April 04 18:10 BST (UK)  »
Just started tracing family tree.  My great grandad was in the army, and obviously moved about a bit.  Not much is known about him.   My nan or dad cant remember his name.   Grandad came from Devonshire.   As a long shot i tried seaching on 1901 census,  at a guess that great grandad might of been 12 in 1901,  but nothing came up,  for any Blood's in Devon area.  Am awaiting birth certificate of Grandad to find out his dads name.   But in meantime (as im getting addicted, and impatient),  is there a way of checking army records.

Many thanks for any help given.
