Nottinghamshire / Re: Samuel Bede Cooper Birth/Baptism/Marriage details help!
« on: Thursday 16 January 14 00:54 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks! I don't know why I didn't find that!  Must be because I was looking for Bede not Bedee as the middle name.  Who knows!  Shows two minds are better than one.  I will carry on digging using that and see if it gets me anywhere else.

Thanks

Nottinghamshire / Samuel Bede Cooper Birth/Baptism/Marriage details help!
« on: Thursday 16 January 14 00:32 GMT (UK)  »
I have hit a brick wall with Samuel Bede Cooper.  He is on the census as being born in Selston, Nottinghamshire about 1805.  He married a Sarah (surname unknown) before 1841.  The children I have found are Cornelius Cooper born abt 1826 in Alfreton, Derbyshire.  Joseph Bede Cooper born 1827, Selson, Derbyshire and Frederic Cooper born 1835.  I am a bit confused as to the place names being the same but in two counties.  Sarah is on census as being born 1809 in Heanor Derbyshire.  Samuel was a schoolmaster.  He was down in the 1861 census, in Poplar, Middlesex as a widow living with his niece, a governess, Anne Jane Bennett or Burnett born 1831 in Herefordshire.  I can't seam to link her to him.  There are various Samuel and Sarah Cooper combinations from the same area that are not my couple to make things even more confusing!

Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Cheltenham Baptism/Christening lookup?
« on: Friday 10 January 14 10:16 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks Sue

Just looked up your link.  Is looking very likely Florence Gardner who is listed in the 1901 census as his sister is actually his mother.  In the 1911 census he is listed as Florence's son and two other of Florence's siblings are down as borders.

Would the only way to confirm this be to get his birth certificate to see his mothers first name?

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Cheltenham Baptism/Christening lookup?
« on: Friday 10 January 14 09:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, sorry I am from New Zealand and don't quite understand the parish bit but hope I have enough info.

I am trying to confirm the parents of Ernest Bertie Gardner.

The free birth registers has him as born Apr/May/June 1900 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

I believe his parents were Thomas and Mary Gardner, Thomas being a Carpenter.  He was later adopted into his sisters family.  Either this or his "sister" Florence Gardner was actually his mother!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Shropshire / Re: Guys of Shropshire

Hi, I have just begun researching the line of Guy family that you are talking about :). My line goes up through Elizabeth Guy b1839 who married Edward Clarkson Short in 1862, registered in Walsall Staffordshire.  I have found through census's that her parents were the Thomas and Elizabeth you talk of. I don't have any info on them at all I would love to know what you have!

Wow! What awesome info everyone!  I have quite often used the siblings census etc to fine relatives but hadn't this time. I will go plug all this into the tree and see where it takes me. Thanks for your time.

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Joseph and Sarah REANEY, Coventry
« on: Sunday 22 September 13 01:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi, trying to dig any extra info on Joseph and Sarah Reaney.  I have an 1841 census record for them living in Coventry, stating Joseph was born in Ireland abt1796 and was a silk ribbon weaver.  Sarah is down as being born in the same county as living (warwickshire) and born about 1811.  I have a death record for her from FreeBMD for 1849 age 39 in Coventry which fits as Joseph is down as widowed in the 1851 census.

I would love to find a marriage record for them to get a maiden name for Sarah. Their oldest child Anne was born about 1827 which would have made Sarah a young bride around 16-18.  Anne was born in Coventry also.

Any info on either Sarah or Joseph would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have just come across this post looking into Janet Mearns.  I am descended from Alexander Tough son of William Tough and Janet Mearns.  Would love any more information you have found around this family.  Do you have parents for Janet?
