Hi all,
I've just stumbled on this thread, and am particulary interested in the Barrett discussion. My 5xGr Grandfather is Thomas James Barrett. He married Elizabeth Taltan/Tolton (I don't know any DOB, DOM or DOD for these 2 people), and they had 5 children, all born in Launceston, Tasmania: Elizabeth (b.1833), Edwin (b.1835), Henry (b.1837), Emma (b.1839) and Thomas (b.1845). Elizabeth, my 4xGr Grandmother, married John Lane in 1852. I'm wondering where my family 'fit in' with the rest of the Barrett family, as there seems to be a lot of them? I noted that on Elizabeth's Birth Certificate, the last name was spelt as BARRATT, so I'm not even 100% sure that they are a part of the Barrett family (even though for the younger 4 children the last name is spelt Barrett). Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

The information I have from his death certificate is as follows:
DOD: March 25, 1894
Place: Camperdown, Victoria
Name: John Lane
Occupation: Labourer
Age: 69 Years
Cause of death: Suicide by Hanging
Father's name: unknown
Mother's name: unknown
Informant: William Perrett (son-in-law)
Date of burial: Mar 27, 1894
Place of burial: Camperdown Cemetery
Where born: London, England
How long in Australia: 53 Years (arrived when he was 16 years old, abt 1841)
Where married: Geelong, Victoria
Age at marriage: 24 (abt 1849)
Spouse name: Elizabeth Barrett
On John Jnr's Birth Certificate, it states his father was born in Depford (assuming this is in England), and that his mother Elizabeth was born in Launceston (in Tas). It also gives a marriage date of Sept 4 1852 in Geelong, Vic.
This is all the information I have. I don't know how he came to Australia either. I don't have a copy of the marriage certificate.

Thanks for the info on Henry. Re: Emma, this isn't "my" Emma - judging by the age when she died in 1867 (she was 30), this Emma was born abt, 1837. Henry's daughter Emma was born 1853, and married Paul Papenhagen in 1876. They ended up in South Africa.
