Hi there

Here's one for you!
1851 census Eliza Palmer in Albemarle st London as guest of Thomas Taylour, Marqess of Headfort.
Thomas Palmer 'nursling' less than 2 miles away at John st.
The Albemarle st address is a hotel (now Browns I think)

Hi all

My friend has found this....1851 census Eliza Palmer at Albemarle st London (st. George, Hanover square) as visitor 30 years old. Head of household Thomas Taylour Marquess Headfort. Same time Thomas Palmer (nursling) with Mary Pedley in John st? or Portland (square?) st. Marylebone. This is first time I can see possible connection in 1851 and introduces new candidate as father of THP. Can anyone pursue this as I no longer have ancestry access?
Cheers

Martin

Sorry folks difficult to read......looking again at photo I took it is 1869 for Thomas 1860 for his son John. Apologies if I confused the confusing story. Just to throw another fish to the seals.....I figured father of Thomas Hannaford Palmer as possibly Alfred (Lord) Paget, now possibly Sir Charles Isham....the Hannaford is a mystery. However in the 1850's the rector of Irthlingborough was one Richard Ash Hannaford, he was known to have visited Lamport. We'll probably never know, but those 3 are the runners so far!

I was in Lamport today, just to add to observations....I read the gravestone of Thomas Bamford as 30th july 1860 aged 50 years...also John Bamford  son of the above died 3rd june 1860 aged 12 years. So sad to read as Eliza Palmer my great great grandma only married Thomas Bamford on 5th of March the same year.

After a spell in the wilderness I have found further info on Eliza Palmer. As already mentioned in this forum Eliza was working at Lamport Hall, home of Sir Charles Isham, in 1860. I cannot find when she started here. A neighbouring parish (Irthlingborough) had a rector in the 1840's called Richard Ash Hannaford. His family name is known around Exeter at the same period. Anyone help me with this join the dots picture? Maybe another red herring?

Of course....as earlier post he was with his uncle Charles in Devon in 1861.puytct

Hi, The question which may provide the required info is who is the father of Thomas Hannaford Palmer? My Grandmother Clara Palmer said her Grandfather was an Earl, got presents from 'the big house' at Christmas etc. Eliza gave birth in London(30,Stangate st), but had no links to the city. Thomas has links to Burton on trent (Paget st, Uxbridge rd.) which has links to Paget family. My suspicion is that the father was Alfred Henry Paget (known as Lord Alfred Paget). Strange that THP came from nowhere to becoming a Blacksmith (trade requiring apprenticeship) by age of 21. Where was he in 1861 census? Lichfield seems to be a central link also. Hope I may have provided food for thought, looking forward to any info.
