Hello cousin Leslie , lol , I can give you my phone # or my email address and I can send you the info I have with pictures of John wonders Margarets father , Margaret and samuel , also info on the Stanleys and I have info on the Grice's , stanleys and Atkinson coal mines in Henry county Illinois . Mary Atkinson was the wife of John Wonders Margaret's mother. All of them had coal mines there , that's how they all intertwined.
That would be wonderful.

PS
I believe the family was in Illinois in 1870. Because I believe that is where William Grice had either a coal mine or some kind of coal storage facility. Which is why He would have had $$$$.
It is possible that Margaret traveled to England (with Maude) at some point in time. but not sure about that.

 ??? Dear Heywood.
Thank You.That would put a whole new twist on everything. The Names dates and places all jive. My mother tells me that my Grandfather Clarence Grice (Samuel's son) remembers his Grandmother (Margaret) and  he remembers visiting her.
Samuel also had a sister older I think (Maude) Selby. Who was raised by Margaret. Records are so hard to find on them.
That does kind of make sense.Maybe William was Samuel's actual father. That would have been quite scandalous.
I have heard that Walton never worked but always had money. Was always dressed to the nines. His family in England would send him money.
More research needs to be done. So the saga continues.

I believe that's him. He was Married to Margaret and they had my great grandfather Samuel George Selby.
Now maybe I  can find out who Walton's parents were........ And why the story about him abandoning his wife and child.
Maybe I should start looking for William Grice and Mary Grice. Since he shows up on the 1880 census as being Samuel's father.
I was told that William Grice liked my great grand father and knew Margaret struggled to survive widowed and,She did do Williams wash/laundry. William asked Margaret to let him take in Samuel. She agreed. it must have been so hard for her. To lose a husband and then have to let go of her son.
But it was the best thing for him. I believe William Grice was in the coal business so he would have been well able and had the means to raise Samuel.
I don't know what happened to margaret
