Clare / Re: O' Connell, Clonlara
« on: Tuesday 01 April 14 19:31 BST (UK)  »
Long time, no post!

Here are two pictures that she had kept.

In the first picture all of the people are all unknown to my family, as is the man in the second. Julia O'Connell is the lady in the second photo.

Can anyone help with the unknown people at all please?

It looks like Francis was her half brother and he emigrated to the US in the 20's.

Still nothing known about her mother though.

Any help appreciated.

Even if you can't help, thanks for looking.

Quick update.

It appears that I may have been looking in the wrong place in the Census!

I think that I have now found her with a family.

She is shown as a Boarder along with two others, one being a Francis Hayes. It is believed that Francis may be a half brother.

Enquiries are ongoing.

Well, after a very slow brain wave, I have found Camac House on an 1880 OS map from sourced on Wikipedia. Historical maps of Dublin:- Ordnance Survey Map of the City and its Environs, South County Dublin.

For future reference, on the map, it is in Dolphins Barn, to the east side of Camac Bridge by the Crumlin Road, just above a Tannery.

The Fire Station now stands proudly in place of it.

I hope this can be of assistance to future searches.

Thanks for any input.

Thanks for the welcome and reply.

Yes, you are right about the 'foster parents'.

I am lead to believe she was born in Cork.

She wasn't on the 1911 Clare census, however, the person named in the census who lived at the address subsequently became her surname.

I am in the process of getting the Marriage Certificate, but I 'm not sure all of the relevant details will be included.

Cheers, Sean.

Clare / O' Connell, Clonlara
« on: Saturday 26 October 13 15:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I have just started researching my family tree and I'm trying to find out more about my Grandmother.

Her name was Julia O'Connell born in about 1909 or 1910, not in Clare.

I don't know if O'Connell was her given surname.

I know that she lived in Clonlara and left in about 1928. She returned several times in the early 1930's after getting married in England.

I know the name of the house that she lived in, but as a newb, I'm unsure of how much info to put on here!

I have a few photos, one of which she is in with an older male, but it is unknown who he is. Again help and guidance is appreciated!

She may have relatives buried in the cemetery in Doonass Demesne Cemetery.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I have just started tracing my Family Tree and I'm really enjoying it!

I'm trying to find out any information about my Grandmothers place of birth.

From what I have been told , she was born in 1894 in Camac House, Goldenbridge, but I can't find anything about Camac house at all.

Has anyone heard of it at all?

Thanks in advance.
