Thank you all so much, through your help I have been able to find out when James died with his birth, death and marriage certificates. I am still struggling with William's information on SP. but I will keep at it, I find SP difficult to navigate sometimes.
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

Thank you all so much, what a great help you have been. This is the information I just couldn't find.
My Grandparents were Samuel Connis and Mary/Finlay/Murphy. She was the widow of William Murphy.
William, James and Minnie were my Mum's half brothers & sister. She was brought up as an only child as the others were older.  She lost touch with all of them in 1945. Ive been able to trace Minnie but could never find out what happened to James or William. Thank you for using your SP credits, its very kind of you. I will try and trace him in Glasgow Evening Times too. weeblether :-*

Thanks CaroleW for your prompt reply. I tried to find him on SP but there were so many with the same name I just got bogged down with it. He was still alive in 1945 but after that I have no idea of his age at death.
I don't know his wife's maiden name or the name or sex of the child who died.
I am not quite sure where to go from the little information I do have.
Thanks again CaroleW

Renfrewshire / James Murphy Barrhead Postmaster
« on: Friday 20 March 20 04:32 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help me with my search for James Murphy. He was born on April 8th 1899,
His parents were William Murphy and Mary Finlay, he had a sister Minnie and a brother William. He was also half brother to Mary Jane Connis, my Mother. This is the information I have that I know to be accurate.
Can anyone fill me in with what may have happened to him. I was told he was the postmaster in Barrhead Post Office, maybe around 1920.? That he did marry ? and that they lost a child in a terrible accident about the same time. I cant seem to get any further than the accurate information I do have so hoping someone can help me out.  Thanks, weeblether

Perthshire / Re: 1908 Perth State Home, any help please
« on: Monday 24 September 18 01:56 BST (UK)  »
Thank you all so much for your help.  I know she was definitely in Glasgow or Paisley at the time, so the 1906 one is plausible, I got the information from Paisley Poor Records 1908 for her children and it said she was in State home in Perth. Her name was Mary Murphy. So sad to imagine   :'(   but she remarried in 1916 and died in 1932 in Glasgow. I will also try the national records of Scotland.
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated. weeblether

Perthshire / 1908 Perth State Home, any help please
« on: Sunday 23 September 18 07:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have a family member who lived in Glasgow and also Paisley, Renfrewshire. In 1908 she was sent to State Home Perth, for three years for drunkenness. Her husband had died the previous year and her three children were sent to live with a relative. My questions are, Where was the State Home in Perth? Can I get records of inmates? Why would she have been sent so far from home? Would she have been sentenced by a court in Glasgow or Paisley? Hope some one can shed some light on this for me and show me how to get some more information. weeblether

Renfrewshire / Re: Paisley Poor Law Records

Hi goldie61,
Yes, I do have the actual pages but they're for each of the children. They were sent to live with an uncle and the claim was for 2/6 a week and some school books. The mother did live in Glasgow then Paisley but never in Perth. It was on the page for the children that I found the information that their father had died and mother was sent to State Home, Perth for three years for drunkenness. I don't understand why she was sent to Perth, so far away. I think she must have been sent there from where she lived in Paisley, I imagine a court of law would have sent her.? This was in 1908. Is there any way to see court records?
I have further records from Paisley Poor records that she was back in Paisley in 1912. She remarried in 1916. and continued to live in Paisley and Glasgow till her death in 1932. Thank you for your help. weeblether

Thank you goldie61, I got this information from Paisley Poor law Records and wondered at her being sent to Perth as she lived in Paisley and was sent from there. I will try the Family History Centre and do as you suggest and start a new post for Perth. I imagined she might have been tried in a Paisley Court but not sure if you can get court records. Thank you for your help, much appreciated. weeblether
