Thanks for replying.
It seems "my" branch of the Ewbanke's - those who lived at Borrenthwaite - were most concerned to keep the name going.
When the mother (an only child) of Mary Ann Annas Ravensworth Ewbanke (MAARDE) married on 7/7/1866 her husband had to change his name from Matthew Robinson Wilson to Ewbanke (Times 2/5/1867).
Their only child MAARDE seems to have tried the same thing, but her husband to be, Dr George William Dalston (note spelling) appears to have agreed only to add her name to his.  Hence the Dalston-Ewbanke.  Their wedding was on 23/9/1890.

By 29/7/1963, the DOD of their son George Michael, in a legal sense the name was gone.

Their daughter, my grandmother, had my father out of wedlock in 1913 - as occurred again in 1916.  The solicitor Dawson was the key.  When my father found out that the parents who brought him up were not his biological parents he wrote to Dawson who replied telling him "let sleeping dogs lie, you'll never find out."  But Dawson wasn't as smart as he obviously thought he was.  He can't be blamed for the internet, but he used a relative of his wife to adopt my Dad, so his name was known and I had my trail!!

When on Stainmore last July/August I was told the name of my grandfather - the locals knew!!

Long reply to short question, sorry.

I was also in the Stainmore area in July 2103.  I spent three weeks wandering around the area searching for my new found ancestors.  I was able to go through Borrenthwaite, which is on the market.
It had been assumed that with the death of George Michael Dalston-Ewbanke (oldest child of George William D-E and Mary Ann Annas Ravensworth D-E) not having had any children, that the long Ewbanke line associated with Borrenthwaite had died out.  That is not so.  My father was the older child of George Michael's younger sister Constance Annie Dalston-Ewbanke and I am his oldest son.

I believe I have found most of the readily available factual information about the Dalston-Ewbanke's but I'm hoping there is someone who may have old family records (I've been to Kendall archives), diaries or any other information.  Can anyone help?

I can't find George Michael's executors/trustees - Arnott Son & Dodds in Newcastle - and so can't find how his estate was disposed of.

I can't find any records of the unwinding of the Marriage Settlement od Mary Ann Annas Ravensworth D-E either - that was J Ingram Dawson and other in Barnard Castle.

Can anyone help?
