I can't find them either. Will have another look but I think its an ok place to stop. I've got my own family to do (Waltham Abbey area in 1700's) and a diploma to pass.

Will let you know if I get any further but thanks again, your lovely people x

Hi Looby, Monica found him at same address in 81 and 91 but yes his name was James not Alexander. Well I didn't think this would be sorted and my friend will be pleased, I know I am. It's great being a detective but I have a lot to learn...  :-\

Another step back in Ireland would be good but mustn't be greedy ;)

Best wishes

Yes I guess there would be children missing and Margaret is repeated in the family. It was Newton Stewart so also fits. Thank you  :)

You did it!  :D

James Alexander was born 21st April 1880 in Blythswood. Father John and mother Catherine McKenna (no idea where Buchanan came from). They married in Ireland 7th June 1864 Newton something ?

David also has mother Catherine McKenna.

1901 census was difficult to read so no wonder Alexander was thought to be a 4 year old carter (21).

The American connection is interesting so will need to check passenger lists.

Thanks so much for all your help. Donation going to Red Cross x

Thanks Monica. This certainly seems the best fit with John as a Watchman. Will request the original for Scotlandpeople tomorrow. I'm glad I found some experts to help x

No just Lanarkshire, Glasgow.  If I requested an official birth certificate it's possible the gov site will find it right? I'm sure records must be missed off sites all the time.
