Perthshire / Henderson family Glenhead Farm Kilmadock
« on: Saturday 03 July 10 05:14 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find a bit more on my family

James Henderson  inherited "the house property at Doune Perth"  when his father James Henderson died in Glasgow 1868  age 83
I would  love to know  where and what this house  was as it does not say in the will ...I am thinking it could be Glenhead  Farm

The 1851 census has James Henderson  at Glenhead farm 160 acres,
1861 census has  him still there   and son James Whitehead Henderson age 2 he married Margaret Whitehead in 1852
James Henderson died in 1868 age  55  in the 1871  1881 & 1891 census family  are still on the farm & Margaret is now head
other siblings of James 1813-1868  moved on to Glasgow  Margaret Henderson  nee Whitehead died in 1901 at Glenhead  James W  Henderson son was  witness  1912 Scottish County Directory James Henderson was still  farming Glenhead. they also appear at Clarkton Farm does anyone have local knowledge about those farms

Northumberland / Help with Birth Cert
« on: Saturday 15 November 08 04:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have an English  birth Cert 1949   and in the section for  the name of the mother   she has the same surname of the father  and formerly it notes  her maiden name

But they never married according to my friend  the daughter  on this  cert

This is a really tricky one as I can not find a birth for the mother under her said maiden name and I have gone through all the records twice  I CAN find one but the name is Lillian J ( surname ommitted ) rather than Joyce L (surname ommited ) Is it possible to  at the records office  get a birth cert with wrong info and can a person use  the male surname and say formerly  if they are not married back in 1949?
appreciate  any help advice with this

all info is at the link below ....
You must have an Apple Mac running OS X 10.4 or later

sorry did not think it would appear so big on list  :-[

try a rescan at 300 dpi  you will have much more information to work with at this resolution you can also make it larger in size eg 4x3 inches will give you a file size 3.6 mb
its not neccesary to color the whole photo as in those days photographers hand colored work with inks often just doing flowers or a frock drawing attention to the most important details . use your lasoo to select area but make sure that you feather x eg 6 pixels so as not to get a hard line of color
suggest desaturate and then do your own  sepia color using color balance
when using fill  select multiply and 50 % for a softer look
your image is blurry to start with  but thats no worry  I have had just a quick go to give you an idea

« on: Sunday 26 March 06 05:17 BST (UK)  »
Hello all
In the history of Bandon written by George Bennett  it says that in 1692 a Captain Scott, Hornibrook, & Swanton after the recent campain ...Battle of the Boyne ...... settled in Bandon  I would very much like to find out more on Hornibrook that settled if anyone out there knows of his origins or first name or anything at all  I would be very grateful

Many thanks Leofric

That is brilliant the Griffiths Valuation I have seen bits of it before but not as good as that one
I did find the IGI record which was a good help as it had the parents names
I shall keep digging
best wishes lesley
