Hertfordshire / Convent in st albans
« on: Friday 31 March 17 22:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I was sent to a convent ( possibly All Saints in St Alban's)c 1949-51)
Having spent many hours and years seeking info.I was still no further forward but have now found out via the NA site that there is a closure on those records.
If anyone went to that convent we may be able to glean more information from one another. Likely though, as I was about 4 or younger at the time and my younger sister was with me.However, I remember quite a bit about it. Thank you

Hello there, Thank you for your reply. I knew that the address was  old but somehow hoped she had now got a new one. She was at the convent the same time as me & it was a part of my life that I would like to know more. I have researched this bit of my history on & off for over 15 years so will just have to keep on looking!

Hello & thank you for replying. I have the details of all the information that you have noted.I spoke to the sisters 10 years ago & more recently 2 years ago. None knew the whereabouts of records/registers  when they moved to Oxford in 1972/3.
I have spoken & written to the people of Westminster Diocese who were unable to help.
However, I spoke to a younger nun who said to wait a while & she would see what she could find. She gifted me a book on the history of the Sisters but not a lot was relevant sadly.
I now will return to  search mothers & baby/children's homes & such like. Thank you

Thank you-it does help sometimes! I was sent to a convent between 49-52 by my mother, it is believed that she was pregnant to a man other than my father. She had already had my sister to this ( Slipper)& she was bringing the family name into disrepute!

Thank you again-the years that I was there c49-52 don't warrant  a mention other than those that are not relevant. I was only told that I was in a convent in St Albans-I may be barking up the wrong tree! but because I was Bap. C of E- that is why I thought  it would be All Saints. Will keep you posted if any developments.
