Stirlingshire / Re: Peter SAWERS esq of Netherkirkton House - Looking for his Ancestors
« on: Tuesday 18 September 18 15:32 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering where I would find out the information about Henry Miller or Millar who is said to have held the lands of kirkton in 1790.  I'm hoping it might give me some clues as to Peter Sawers esq's parents and grandparents if he indeed inherited Nether Kirkton from family.

Here is an extract of Peter Sawers will where he mentions his natural children.  Thoughts?

Thankyou SO much for all the research you  have helped a lot!  I never thought that Peter Sawers had ANY natural children until I read the attached which is his Will and Testament.  Its a little hard to read but it states he has two sons and a daughter.
Robert Gordon SAWERS
John Stevenson SAWERS
Isabella McFarlane SAWERS

I can't seem to find any recorded births for any of them, however -

1841 Census - Robert Gordon Sawers was 9yo living with his Aunt & Uncle  "Newhouse" Torphichen
1851 Census - Robert was a visitor at a home in Edinburgh - apprentice silk mercer?
1855 Immigrated to Australia Departed from Liverpool Arrived Melbourne
1860 - Married Harriet HAWORTH
1863 - Harriet gave birth to my great - grandfather Henry James SAWERS

The attached I found from Trove dated October 1861 in the Argus newspaper Melbourne.  So I knew there was a definite connection. I have to assume that they were all illegitimate children from perhaps random women as Peter Sawers didnt marry.  Maybe Robert wasn't familiar with his father Peter at all and therefore never made an attempt towards the will?

In Peters will he mentions his two Natural born sons Robert Gordon SAWERS and John Stevenson SAWERS, and daughter Isabella McFarlane SAWERS. Robert is my 2nd great grandfather. I’m not sure who Their mother was... Peter was around 80 Or 85 when he died in Nov 1859.

Ive put together a family tree on ancestry, and have purchased Peter's will from Scotlands people, along with death record that listed his parents as Margaret HAY and Robert SAWERS of Black Loch but thats as far as I can get it seems... hit brick wall!

It has been written in an article that Peter SAWERS was a great grandson of a SAWERS of St Ninians and married 4 times.  Id love to find out more about his parents and grandparents if someone would be kind enough to help!  Ive attached the newspaper article from 1859 after Peters death

Thankyou so much for that, I have emailed them and asked if they can send me the documents to transcribe.  I'm hoping if I can access the record it might give me some info that will confirm if H.J Sawers is my great grandfather!

Much appreciated!

I found a record that has an H J Sawers sailing on a vessell called the 'Verajean' from New South Wales to Macassar as a steward in October 1900.

I'm wondering if this might of been 'my Henry James Sawers' - maybe was his way to get to Manchester UK.

Does anyone know how do I go about finding out further info on this record?
