he was born into a boatbuilding family.

I am related to Thomas Monk.My Grandmother Emily Jane Hatton was his great grand daughter,her Grandparents  were John Hatton and Elizabeth Monk.John Hatton was also a boat builder. Her parents were John Joseph Hatton boat builder/coal merchant and Elizabeth Fisher.My Grandmother was born Berkhampstead and married Maurice Richard Josey,mosaic artist whose mosaic work you can see online,carried out in Droitwich St Catherine's Church.My father John was their youngest child.
