Nope - nothing new on this, so far.  I've hit a similar roadblock on my paternal line, back in Ireland, and even an Irish researcher couldn't help me out, some years back -- too many Protestant church records have been burned, in addition to the records' office fire that wiped out a lot of info.

Can you suggest any other sites where I might get a hit?  I've been surprised not to hear back from someone, on this site, as I've been able to get a lot of info from others using the site, on other individuals.

Re the Moore/Warnock connection, you may want to know that Warnock descendants  inhabit the family home in County Down -- it's called Fortfield and they have a website with photos set up.  Take a look at:
http://www.fortfield.com/friends

Correct website for Adrian Warnock:
http://jubilee-church.org/intro.htm

I have some other items that I could send to you directly, because they are lengthy -- a Warnock timeline and an explanation of how the name came to be, for starters, if you'll send me your e-mail address.

In the meantime, have a very happy and safe new year!
 ;D

My Warnock ancestors arrived in Newcastle, Delaware in about 1758; however, I believe you will find a whole lot of info on the County Down Warnocks, who are descended from John Warnock who came to the Ards Peninsula as part of the Ulster Plantation movement in 1610-1620, with his brothers who settled elsewhere in Northern Ireland.  For more info, you can go to:

http://cobalt.bscn.com/lwarnick/history.htm

Or look up the Warnock Family Website managed by Adrian Warnock in London - I believe it's a link off of jubileechurch.com, where he is a minister.

The Warnocks from Down are well documented and you should be able to find a ton of info via these sites.  Good luck, cuz!

Derry (Londonderry) / W. William Austin, b. 1688
« on: Wednesday 14 July 04 16:57 BST (UK)  »
Family lore is that this maternal ancestor was from Londonderry, but we haven't yet proven that.  He married Ruth Bryant, b. 1692, and they brought their family of several children to America in about 1725.

Will appreciate any info that can help us find his family in Ireland.

Looking for info on this maternal ancestor - he married Ruth Bryant (b. 1692) in Ireland and they had several children, whom they brought with them to America after 1725 or so.  I'm trying to find info on his family in Ireland -- family lore says that he came from Londonderry, but this is not proven yet.

Any suggestions for how we can do that?

Europe / Re:Renaming Swedish Immigrants to UK
« on: Wednesday 02 June 04 15:02 BST (UK)  »
I've recently worked through this on my husband's maternal line -- the Swedes originally used patronymic names such as "Anders' son" for the son of a man whose first name was Anders.  When these young men went into the military (and perhaps into the merchant marine), there was much confusion because of the duplication -- i.e., too many "Anders' sons"!  Many names were changed at that point to reflect their rank, their home place or some geographic feature.  My husband's family, for example, went from Andersson to Bjurstrom to Brustrom -- between the military change and the spelling change when they came to the U.S. in the 1890's, it was a real mining job to get back to the right family!  I don't know anything about laws/customs re changing names when folks went to England, however.

That said, the Swedes have fantastic documentation in their parish records and a number of really good genealogy sites where you can start by searching for the original family name.  You might search for "Swedish naming customs" to get a list of options, for starters.

Good luck!  I hope your treasure hunt will be as fruitful as ours has!

Looking for info on the Warnock family - from in/around Kilmarnock in Ayrshire.  In particular, looking for the family of John, James & William Warnock who left home in Scotland in 1606 as part of the Ulster Plantation - went with James Hamilton to settle in Ireland.

Also looking for info on Warnockland, a property that is/was in the Kilmarnock area -- hope to find Warnocks whose family story(ies) will help identify the family of these 3 brothers.
